I own a little over a 1/4 sim on the mainland. Recently a neighbor moved in and installed 15 camping chairs to attract business. They are running a Slyngo/Zyngo joint. They own about 8000 sq meters.
The camping chairs are occupied 24/7 and there are a lot of patrons that visit to play the games. So the sim is starting to fill up and become laggy. (Mainland only allows 40 avatars). According to Linden policy, this is "unfair resource usage". I filed an Abuse Report and got others in the sim to do so as well. Still waiting on the verdict.
My question is: has anyone filed such an Abuse Report and had any success? If so, what was the action LL took?
Trying to decide if I should keep fighting or just move. It's hurting the other businesses on the sim and residents sometimes can't get home. Would love to know if anyone has experience in this.

Actually, I lived in a sim in which a successful campaign was run that stopped exactly the behavior you're describing. (there were regularly so many campers, that the sim was highly impacted, and in some instances, I was unable to access my property due to the sim being "full" of avatars)
I'll IM you in-world with the name of someone who put this together - do keep in mind, it did take some time to be effective (many days, if not a few weeks).

Yes, I've had luck with this in the past.
Talk to your new neighbor first. Explain that there's a limit to the number of people who can be on the sim at once and that they're taking a lot more than their fair share. They may have no clue that there are limits.
If that doesn't work, AR them and make sure to say that you tried to resolve the problem yourself but they wouldn't respond/were jerks/orbited you/whatever really happened. If LL agrees that they're taking too much of the sim resources, they will issue a warning and return some number of their camping devices.

If you own 1/8 of a sim and use, on average, 80%-90% of the avatar "slots", doesn't seem fair. I would quote from the Knowledge Base, but the portal is down (hooray).
I own about 1/4 of a sim. To be fair, I shouldn't be averaging over 10 avatars on a daily basis in my parcel, which I do not. And the other issue is the lag that 15 camping chairs create. We don't allow poofers and other laggy things on the parcel to make it enjoyable for all residents that live there.

why do you care about 15 users on land you dont own?
you know that each server computer runs 4 whole sims, each can hold 45 people plus 15k prims. thats 60,000 prims and about 200 users. how are 15 campers next door effecting you? how about the 150 ppl on the other 3 sims you never see who also share your server computers resources.....if you could see what other sims shared the computer yours runs on would you a/r them as well?
the 1/4 a sim you own is .0625% of the servers total land capcity or 1/16th of the land.
share and share alike!

From: Veritas Lahtinen We don't allow poofers and other laggy things on the parcel to make it enjoyable for all residents that live there. poofers are particle effects and are 100% CLIENT SIDE and therefor can not create lag.

I hate to tell you a negative view but I had about 8000 sm on a beautiful beach, quiet, no one hardly on the sim. Had a nice pirate ship, sat on my ship and watched the sunsets every night.
One day a zingo (or whatever) game moved in. Instant lag, huge traffic, shouting across the sim constant. I was very upset and there was nothing I could do but sell my land. In fact on one occasion they filed an AR against me and I got a 2 day ban. What was interesting is the person showed up almost instantly and I was disconnected just like that.
I always tell people before they buy mainland, look around and what other property is for sale and ask yourself what would you do if a zingo game moves into that space.

Of course particles effect everyone else around, causing them lag! From: Veritas Lahtinen Would love to know if anyone has experience in this. If the sim is always full AR him and tell others owners to do the same thing, it works. You can also use a huge prim sign instead of IM every single owner, if you need it I have one for free

I Think Zyngo (and similar things) is just gambling that LL doesn't want to come to terms with. All that "does it involve skill" is just them playing around with a supposed grey area that really isn't one. We'll see, but I'm pretty convinced their days are all numbered.

share and share alike! Each sim is run on its own processor. The sims on the other 3 processors in the same server can have an effect, but not nearly as much as what's in the specific sim in question. There are many mainland sims that would be brought to their knees with 15 users. I used to own half of one, but now that all the heavy users have left and it's mostly residential or for sale, it works a lot better. Each sim can hold 40, not 45, and the OP is clearly talking about situations where there's a lot more than 15 because they mention people being denied entry because the sim is full.

From: Kaia Kittel ...well then it's a coincidence that whenever someone sparks a particle all the surrounding Av's start to suffer lag! Of course particles effect everyone else around, causing them lag! The popular thinking that particles don't cause sim lag because they're all client-side isn't quite right. A particle system that's not changing - something that's just doing the same particles over and over - doesn't really contribute to sim land, except a little bit of overhead that you get with all scripts. Changing a particle system - changing the start/end colors/size/alpha or the texture or whatever - causes the sim to do a full update on that object. Doing this a lot, especially on a complex object, can add more than a little to the sim load. You can see this pretty easily by finding somebody with insane poofers on and enabling Show Updates. Having a couple of these around isn't that big of a deal. If the sim is already starting to hurt, having these things around will make _the sim_ worse. This is also true of the titlers that change colors - another thing that seems harmless enough but is more expensive than you might think.

You know...it's not just the 15 constantly occupied camping chairs. Its also the people queueing up to take a spot. Its also the other people playing these so-called "legalized" gambling machines. On any given day, 30-35 of the 40 available avatar slots can be taken by this one establishment. Try running an event for 2 hours and wondering why only 5 people show up.
I have stopped trying to reason with neighbors. I either get orbited, told to f-off, or ignored. Or, they don't understand English.
I recently found out that the "casino" has purchased more land in my sim. They are up to 16000 sq meters. I don't hold out much hope of having my case resolved now.

CRAPPY!!! You're dealing with an extreme case. LL does step in and help out in these, but it may take a while. File an AR against the camping chairs for unfair use of the resources, and have your friends do the same. Keep doing it every day until you get a response. Include the reaction you received when you tried to talk to the person. It'll get resolved eventually. The other thing to hold out hope for is that these places come and go very quickly. Most people don't realize how easy it is to lose a LOT of money when you own these machines. It's hard to get them set to something that people will play without making it profitable for the players. And this person has the added cost of lots of campers. They're starting out in a big hole from all the land and game purchases, then they could be losing a considerable amount every day too. They may not last more than a couple weeks. It's possible that they are making money, but most places don't.

From: Veritas Lahtinen I recently found out that the "casino" has purchased more land in my sim. They are up to 16000 sq meters. I don't hold out much hope of having my case resolved now. Why not? 16km2 is only a 1/4 sim.. If they're eating far more than their share of the sim, you're entitled to complain. Talk (nicely) to the owner first and if that doesn't work, AR them and make sure to say that you tried to resolve the problem before calling LL. From: Argos Hawks File an AR against the camping chairs for unfair use of the resources, and have your friends do the same. Keep doing it every day until you get a response. Or just file one AR and maybe have a neighbor or 3 do the same and see what LL does before you start spamming the already-overloaded abuse team.
