Before I upgrade to premium account I have a few questions

the main reason i want to get a premium account is so i can own land.

1. is the 512 sq.meters for $512L still available? I tried to do a search on "first land" but could not find an answer. if not, are there any similar incentive of upgrading to a premium account?

2. if i decided to do a quarterly payment for premium membership do they give you notice that the premium account will expire soon? so they give a chance for u to renew before they delete your land and items on it.

3. has anyone had the unfortunate incident of their houses and items being disappearing/deleting?

thanks in advance

No, though some regiions do this I believe out of generosity

Yes they do, but it renews automatically unless you tell it to stop

Nope.

Even with the billing problems of the last few months, my account has gone into the red for sometimes a few hour, sometimes a few days, yet my land, house etc were all ok.

I think you're given 7 days "in the red" until your account is locked out, and then a further 30 days before everything is "taken back".

I'm sure someone else can give a better idea on the 30 day thing

That's exactly how it was explained to me.

#1 no. you can buy 512 from a private owner on mainland (or auction from LL) at whatever price any particular parcel is listed at. which means, lots of research about potential neighbors before a purchase.

#2 in your account history, it shows amount(s) due, and date(s) said amount(s) is/are due.

#3 if you own the land, no one else can delete it.

1.

The 512 SM for L$512 land is no longer available but you do get free tier for that amount of land. i.e. you have to buy the land but you don't have to pay tier on it.

2. I pay annually, so its harder to recall, but I think there is a notice. Its best to payment info on file with them, or a cash balance in your account to cover the charges, so you don't have to worry about it.

3. Nope, in over 2.5 years in SL, owning land, I have never had a problem like that, nor do I have any reason to think it is very common. Objects are more likely to disappear from your inventory then from your land, however I have not had much of a problem with inventory disappearing either, only one pair of pants and a shirt that I can think of.

Being preimium has some nice perks (I used to be primium) but in my opinion you might as well save your money and just rent since it isn't worth going preimium anymore since they've cut the stipend amount (repeatedly) and with estates and mainland being mostly adfarms now the 512 in mainland tier isn't worth the 9.95 a month.

1. out of curiosity, where did you hear about 'firstland' (the $512 plot)? ll killed that off a while ago, and i know that they still continued to promote it for several months afterward. but i thought they had finally removed all the references to it.

2. yes you will be notified via email several times before it ever comes to a 'forced foreclosure' on your land.

3. has this happened to you? if your land is set or deeded to a group and you rez things without setting the objects to group they will be returned to your lost and found folder if autoreturn is ever enabled.

I disagree, you have a lot more control and freedom of what you can do with your land if you rent on the mainland. You do not have to worry about whether your landlord will go belly up next month or sell the sim or just rip you off. LL is far more likely to be here next month then most of the other landlords in SL.

On the flip side you also have less control over what your neighbors do with theirs. So you need to be very choosy about where you buy.

I always get an email notice about 10 days before my CC is hit with my quarterly payment. It's automatic unless I notify them not to bill my card. Since I want to continue with my premium account I do nothing. On the day my CC is charged the $22.50 quarterly amount I get another email informing me that my card was successfully charged the proper amount and it also gives my next billing date. In this regard, I think LL does a better than average job of keeping you informed on your account payments, when due, and when paid.

The land on mainland is sort of hit and miss on what peple generally consider good land. I happen to have a quite nice 512 plot that is not surrounded by ad farms and unsightly clubs or builds. It also is really quite lag free..........much more lag free than many private islands or estates I"ve been to. If you look for mainland land to buy look for plots that are next to Linden Protected Land. You'll pay a ittle more but you can be relatively sure no one is going to drop a 50 meter high building right at your property boundary. And you won't have ugly red ban lines to look at either. I have a plot that has three sides protected by Linden Land. I was here before the "first land" feature was discontinued and have held on to that plot like it's gold.......a plot of like kind would probaly cost you 10,000 lindens now. But don't let that discourage you.............look around. I've seen some really nice looking 512 plots in the 5 to 6,000 linden range. Not a bad deal when you consider the people paying that much or more for a 1024 meter plot and paying 2500 to 3000 lindens a week for tier on a private island or sim. Despite some arguments to the contrary, there are benefits to owning mainland. Not all mainland is garbage as many would have you believe........and certainly not all private islands and estates are heaven either

Look around, check prices and take time to decide........don't get in a hurry to buy land. That's for both mainland and private land.

Look for the information from LL about the current land prices. I think it was something like 6.3 per sq meter or around that. You can then use a calculator to figure out if someone is asking a fair price per meter. And don't be afraid to make a lower offer if you love the parcel, the owner might negotiate the price. Always remember to pass up parcel that doesn't give you a good feeling. I took my time looking at land and didn't buy until I saw where I am now. I really liked it and I felt like I was home. And even if it's a larger parcel be sure to check to see if the landowner is willing to divide it up. There were some large parcels up for sale in my sim that the owner did break up.

I have had items return to lost and found for reasons unknown. I figure it was where I put it or something.

You shouldn't forget Premium also gives you full acces to support, including live chat, which has been a great help for me. Really.

i saw it on two different websites. i forgot exactly what the sites but, they were outdated. maybe 06.

thanks everyone for your input. i am still trying to find a great deal on land that i would want to keep before i switch over to a premium account but i will definitely make the transition.

I would advise against going premium. What you GET for the cost is not worth it, unless you want to own a lot of land.

I pay monthly and it's under "my account" on the website. It tells me each month when the next payment of $9.95 is due. But no such thing as first land anymore. I own a total of 5632 all on mainland, and I don't have any major comlaints so far. Maybe I've gotten lucky, and right now my main living is done in my skybox, so what's on the ground doesn't bother me. I keep my draw distance down, too, so if there are ugly things in the sky around me, I don't see them. But there can't be anything too close becuase my radar on my mystitool never shows anyone within the range of 96 m. You do have to search for the right mainland, but when I was thinking of cancelling my premium membership and renting on a private estate or island, I found that price wise, it worked out around the same. The benefit to mainland is that I'm not bound by a covenant. Neither are my neighbors, but so far they have been pretty good. Having said that, I should probably go down to the ground soon and look around to see if anything has changed.

If all you want is a 512, the benefit of going premium is marginal. If you want to own more land, then by all means, go premium. That is just my opinion, though.

Just a quick note. Live chat is for concierge users.

From: Knowledge Base

Concierge users are Residents who meet any of the following criteria:

*Own an estate (private island/region).
*Are the payor for an estate.
*Pay tier for more than a half region's worth of mainland parcels.

you dont even have to be premium to own land on the mainland. if you make a group and have someone donate tier (or pay someone to donate it, that is rent it) you can buy for group with no payment info on file.

How did you get to it? I recently tiered-up to the half-sim level. Prior to that, clicking the link in the knowledge base didn't work for me. It started working only after I tiered-up.
