Recently a white dot appeared over my avatar. It follows me everywhere I go. Any idea what this is? How to get rid of it?

The dot signifies that you're voice activated and ready to talk. Everyone with a dot has voice activated (on land where it's used, of course). To turn it off, go to the top tool bar: Edit > Preferences > Voice and you can choose to discontinue voice from there.  |
