I've been in the middle of a whirlwind of inventory cleaning lately. There are nice products, such as the ThiNc storage boxes to use as in-world/out-of-inventory organizers. My problem with the storage boxes, though, is that I can't put folders in them. All the items in a folder go into the storage boxes independently and the folder stays in my inventory. This is fine for linked items such as houses, but is a disaster for clothes.
Is there a storage product available that lets you organize in folders? I'd like to be able to put some of my less used clothes (costumes, ball gowns, etc) into storage, but don't want to have to search for them piece by piece.
Thanks!

Not that I know of...I generally just pack related items into a prim.

hmm That would be a wonderful idea, even for us designers in a way to store and sort our outfits... Maybe you could take a picture or use the picture provided by the designer if there is one, and box up the outfits... Then name all the boxes accordingly with the picture named the same, and then put them all into one box... so when you are opening the contents, above each box would be it's picture and you can open the picture to see if thats what you are looking for or want to wear?

I would do as Ann says. Just make a box, and put the items into the box and then put that box into the storage.

I bought the Thinc boxes, because they came highly recommended in the Official SL Guide. But I'm not happy with them.
First, all they really are is a prettily-textured storage prim. A plywood cube would do as well.
Second, as has been said, you can't store folders. However...you CAN store nested boxes. So if you want to sort some things, you can put each category into its own box, and then store the boxes in another box.
Third, they become iffy to operate when you try to put more than about 40 or 50 items in one. I haven't had one actually lose anything, but the way they sometimes display "No Items" for a while is scary.

Well when LL allows me to use notecards with my full permissioned items I use those for folders in content tab. Problem with putting other boxes in content tabs is you can't examine different outfits or images. Sometimes the land server does restart and goes whacked out and items poof like the inventory's asset server. At least the inventory server eventually loads items. When things get vanish on land server often it sent in lost and found in box called object so you have no clue if it doesn't entirely poof. I often wonder if there is way to do some with UUID numbers because everything has one but the thing is sometimes even that has errors and issues.

I do the boxes in boxes thing and name all the packed boxes appropriately, then name the storage box as well. Specially useful for textures and back-ups of stuff i've made. Other items ....... welll ....... I forget what's in there and realise I never needed it in the first place. Oh and yes would soooooo love to be able to put folders in boxes, that would make life a lot easier.

Bright Inventory Boxes allow you to simulate folders and retrieve Items by folder I do believe, but I am not happy with them either. I am working on something a little more complicated, but I would not expect my Cellular Storage System to be released any time soon though as it is proving quite the challenge and several versions have run into stack heap collisions already. It seems designing a directory tree interface is not as easy as it seems, the other draw back is currently having to rename each item in the box to place it in the right "Directory".

I saw a place that had a dresser with drawers a filing cabnit with drawers etc
I thought it was cool but never looked further as to how it was done can not recall the name of the place off hand
The dresser I thought was a nice touch for a house, store your clothing in the dresser drawers hehe
I gave up trying to sort my inventory

Watch out about storing (your own) boxes in (your own) boxes.
I tried that, and now everything that was in a box in a box is now not available to the database.

coco I occasionally have things come up as 'missing from database' in my storage prim, but not any more often than it happens with my actual inventory.
