This has also been posted under Technical issues but it's at the bottom of a thread so I'm not sure if it will get much action.

OK,,, here's the spec's of the two power supplies I'm considering. One is "SLI Certified" and the other isn't. Please feel free to comment.

(1) COOL MAX ( 550Watt ) - $58.00

+3.3V +5V +12V +12V -12V +5VSB
30A 50A 18A 18A 2.5A

(2) ULTRA ( 550 Watt ) "SLI Certified" - $70.00, after $30.00 rebate

+3.3V +5V +12V +12V -12V +5VSB
25A 30A 17A 18A 0.8A 2.5A

Well, there you have it. The Coolmax seems to have the higher specs but the Ultra has thr SLI certification. Your opinions please!!! :)

I'm basically upgrading an older PC I already have. ( Pentium IV, 3.0 ghtz, 1 mg ram )

I'm going ot install an Nvidia 7600 GS AGP, but my current power supply os only 300W. I've been advised that a larger PS would be a good move. I chose a 550W in anticipation of building a new PC later this year and plan to use the new PS in the new PC.

Hi Carolyn, I think you left out a current capacity on the coolmax but I'd still say that that sounds the better value.

edit: I'm assuming the SLI connector is none other than the age-old RYYB.

Hiya Bilbo99,

The figure for under -12V was missing from the spec sheet. They only had an 'A' listed.

What I got in mine was a 485w PS Enermax, which was the wattage the guy recommended to handle the additional needs of the graphics card, two hard drives, and a fully loaded set of CD/DVD/Card Reader, etc..

I went with this power supply because it was suggested to be both quiet and enery efficient.

I have 4 HDD's, dvd & cd burners. So I went with a 550 SLi power supply. Kinda wish I went a bit higher, eihter 600 or 650 :-/

simple rule of thumb regarding PSU's...

if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

I don't think I'd put money in to a power supply until after you pop in the other stuff. Start the nifty little utility that gives you your temps & voltages. If the voltages are holding steady at the proper level, you probably don't need a new power supply.
