Body Shape Chart

Is there a chart posted anyplace for the various adjustable body parts for the shape of our avatar, "Body", "Head", "Eyes", etc. and the listings of what can be changed for each part, "Head Size", "Head Stretch", "Head Shape", etc.?
If not I will go ahead and make a word doc table for my own use, but I thought I'd ask before I did it.
Thanks

(/me looks at your join date, and at the risk of completely misunderstanding...)

Are you asking about recommended settings?

Because you can change ALL that stuff. As long as you have a modifiable shape.

If your current shape isn't modifiable, you can create a new shape for yourself for free. You right-click in the inventory window and choose Create New > Body Part > Shape (or something like that - I'm not inworld at the moment to check).

If you want to know about proportions, there is a thread on that. It's controversial, but it helped me A LOT, and made it possible for me to make my own shapes.

If you're going to be changing a shape, you should make a backup copy in case you mess up. (It takes the pressure off.)

I the OP is just asking about a blank electronic chart that has all the adjustments possible listed. So, that you could actually record the numbers on the chart.

I have done that with some of my shapes. It allows you to compare different shapes attributes and figure things out a bit about what you like.

I wrote all my settings down on a piece of paper, and used them to recreate my likeness in OpenSim and Open Life. It's also an insurance against a catastrophe in SL, however unlikely, where my shape is lost.

Yes, I was just wondering if someone had an empty chart like a table into which one could type his or her shape settings to save and to become more familiar with what changes what. Our "appearance" window doesn't open up very large so taking a screen shot is out of the question. I'm sure that the folks who make and sell shapes have such charts for their own use and are not about to share them. It will take me a few hours to format and type in all the fields..no big deal. I was just wondering if someone had one and was willing to share.

I would share, but I am not at home where I have access to my own folders. :(

Yeah it would be good to see an excell spreadsheet showing numbers for say the 50 most popular shapes for those of us who end up making cartoon people :)

Nope...I have no such chart but I've been doing custom shapes for 2 years. It seems a tedius thing to actually record every number to every slider position I adjust......but after doing so many.....ya sort of get an instinct for what alteration will have what effect.
If someone were to ask me to record the numbers I would certainly do it.....but it's not smething I would consider necessary to creating unique shapes. There are so so many possibilities.

But, the flip side is.....even with all the shape options...once a skin is apllied...it limits the uniqueness to some degree. I have several very very different female shapes but unless the cam is very close to the face......with the same skin.....it's not immediately obvious what the differences are. Well....big breasted versus small is pretty obvious....or emaciated versus full figured......but in the face the adjustments can be very subtle. One of the things that will change a look dramatically is the eyebrow shape. A lot of folks ignore this detail and it can have a very strong effect on the over all look of the character. I find male shapes to be even more of a challenge because there doesn't seem to be as many skin options and I haven't yet attempted male skins. I do all my own female skins now and I taylor my shapes & skins to work together.

maybe that was overkill lol may I ask what your reason is for wanting the chart? Just curious..... :o

I use an Excel spreadsheet, but it's clumsy. I think it would be cool if your shape is saved as an XML file the same way WindLight settings are saved.

Actually, I wonder what IS in the character folder on our hard drives. I got curious enough to look - there is an XML file called genepool.xml there on my hard drive. [The forums will not allow me to post it for some reason]

It's gotta be a shape, but is it your current shape of just a default? If we can save shapes as XML files,, what a great way to back them up.

That's exactly what's in the XML file. Open it up in Notepad or any other text editor and you'll see:

< ?xml version="1.0" encoding="US-ASCII" standalone="yes"?>
< linden_genepool version="1.0">
< archetype name="M W Skinny">
< !-- wearable: shape -->
< param id="1" name="Big_Brow" value="1.540" />

etc., etc.

So all you have to do to save your shape is make a copy of that file. No chart required.

I hope this is not a way to rip off non-mod shapes.

Could you host it somewhere and make it downloadable? And post the URL here?

That would be great.

So far as I know, no one else has made a chart of body types and corresponding SL slider numbers before, which if I understand correctly is what you were asking.

I realized looking at it again that the XML file does NOT contain your shape information - it is some repository of different body types - purpose unknown. I should have looked more closely.

So that's 82 scales with 100 possible values, for a total of 100^82 (10^164) possible shapes. Much larger than a googol, or put another way, approximately equal to the number of atoms in the observable universe *squared*.

I made an Excel spreadsheet that listed each of the possible categories - you can just plug your existing numbers in, or add a new column for changes. I think I made one for males and females. Message me with your email if you want to see a copy and I'll see if I have a clean copy around to share.

EDIT: I just checked, and I have a male and a female spreadsheet with the Properly Proportioned Female Body Shape, 5'7" R1 Original by Vaelissa Cortes and the Properly Proportioned Male Body Shape, 5'10" R1 Original by Vaelissa Cortes numbers already plugged in, as well as an extra column where you can add your own numbers. You can, of course, add additional columns as well. There are also recommendations regarding head sizes for small, medium, and large from Sirena's.

Thank you Princess!!
I just recieved the spreadsheat via email as directed. This is going to make shape shifting much easier. I would recomend this spreadsheat to anyone interested in adjusting their shape.

I followed my own basic shape in real. It turned out much beter than I ever thought it would but it needed readjusting until I was satisfied. If teh OP just takes the time to learn the ins and outs of appearance and shape, then they will feel more "comfortable" in their own body even in sl. I think my bum needs to be a bit smaller but I am told its very cute. Bu I wont change it just cos I think it needs a inch or two off.

it's always funny how small our universe really is in comparison to the numbers we can work with.... how little stuff it takes to fill a huge space, and how much stuff can be crammed into a small one...
