Horrible Lag on Load

Here is hoping someone can help me ... My problem is that I get terrible lag once everything in range has loaded unless I am high in the sky in a barebones skyhouse (i.e. one bed and nothing more really). I have everything throttled down to complete minimums to no avail. When I first TP into a region things are fine .. but as all textures, etc, within range (64m) load I start getting lag that makes it untenable to do anything, even chat in IM.

Sadly I have an Intel 965 Express chipset that I cannot change (company laptop). I have tried a bunch of different settings but to no avail. Does anyone have any suggestions?

May be worth reading the comments in VWR-7072:
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-7072
especially the link to:
http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2007/11/29/there-is-a-hack-for-second-life-and-the-intel-965-chipset/
and the suggestions about getting the latest Intel drivers and adjusting the 3D Settings for the Graphics Accelerator itself: "Starting at the bottom, I turned the Anisotropic Filtering Off, Set the Driver Memory Footprint to High, and set the Force S3TC Texture Compression to On."

I bought a laptop with the intel 965 a few months before i joined sl,when i joined sl it seemed to work ok at first but then lag got so bad i would wind up going through walls,it got so bad it almost became impossible to run sl without freezing all the time.
At first i would teliport to a store and things were not too bad but within minutes performance would degrade to the point of freezing
In the end i decided if i wanted to continue to stay in sl i was going to have to get another puter,so i bought one strictly with sl in mind and all i would need to run sl problem free
I realize everyone can't go out and buy a new puter but i decided i had too,now sl runs like a dream

Qie, you are awesome!

I'll have to check with my tech guy when he gets home this afternoon, but this could be the answer to the mysterious freezing problems I've been having.

Thanks!

Qie .. thanks for the link, have read once and will do so again, but the changes suggested there do not work. Not sure if setting 'Force S3TC Texture Compression' to On would work, since doing this means sculpties do not show properly and so I haven't tried leaving that set.

nikita - how I wish I could go out and buy a new laptop, but since for my work I am constantly traveling I cannot carry two laptops, and so have to live with the company one.

I seem to have 'found' the problem ... but the solution is not too great. If I go into the Advanced/Rendering MEnu .. and turn off Alpha, the lag goes pretty much away ... but this is not a great solution as Alpha textures ((and there are tonnes of them) no longer are visible.

Does anyone have any sugestions for other setings that might fix this?
