downloading clothing

Help please,

Last time I logged in I got a message 'downloading clothing' that I have never seen before. I then appeared as a white fluffy cloud for several minutes while the little disk-drive light and the internet modem lights went berserk.

What happened ?

1. n version 1.20, any avatar whose shape or clothing is still downloading is now rendered as a Cloud, rather than gray or naked or the wrong body shape.
   
2. This will be especially true for newly-born avatars on Orientation Island who have not yet selected a gender.

1. Sometimes in Second Life, the simulator has not completely sent the minimum Appearance information to your computer about what an avatar should look like. In previous versions, this meant the avatar would look like a gray, female model made of clay ("Ruth".
   1. This usually only lasts a few moments, while the server is delivering the essential information: an avatar's shape, chest-texture, and waist-texture.
      
   2. In rare cases, if the server is misperforming, sometimes the Cloud won't ever acquire the essential Appearance information and stays a cloud for a long time. This is a tougher computer problem that we continue to track down.
      
   
   

Just to agree with previous post. This does happen sometimes, normally nothing to worry about, just mildly frustrating!

RARE? Last night while zipping around a Mayan build I spent a great deal of time in the company of a handsome, fluffy cloud- needless to say, I do not usually travel in cloudy circles...

Sounds like my college tokin days.



And I still miss Ruth

I still think we should have a Ruth party.

Methinks the author of that entry you cited needs to rethink their definition of "rare". It's rare to come to a place with more than four avatars and not have one of them permanently a cloud unless they rebake and then edit their appearance. That doesn't seem very rare to me.

I seldom ever have the problem of avs staying clouds for long periods of time, even in places with 40 or so avs there.

Sometimes this happens when the region you are logging into is experiencing problems. When I get this message and the problem does not resolve within a few minutes I have often had good luck logging off and then back on in another region.

I've been having this problem since early December...about 4 weeks. I've cleared the cache, changed groups, tried to edit appearance, re-logged to a different location, even bought a new ($15L) shape. Nothing helps.

Someone suggested that I call SL, but I have a "free" account, and it was my understanding they don't provide support for that. I'd really like to try to salvage this avi.

This happens no matter what computer or connection I'm on. I have a couple of alts, and they're fine...It's just that Derekk appears as a gas bag to me...and appears ruthed to others.

When attempting to wear a new shape, I get the error message that I can't change appearance until all items are downloaded...and I've waited nearly an hour with no luck.

Can somebody help me? Any assistance will be gratefully accepted.

I suspect a corrupted avatar.

First, don't just clear cache...actually delete the cache folder.

If that doesn't work, uninstall SL, and search for and delete all files and registry values associated with it. Then reinstall the program.

If THAT doesn't work, it's on LL's end of things. File a support ticket.

EDIT: You say it happens "no matter what computer I am on". Forget steps 1 and 2...file the support ticket.
