Has anyone noticed lately.... I use Windows XP and have noticed in the last few days that when I close SL and then start again...I still have the original taking up resources when I check the task manager... Then I have to end the task from within Task manager...Anyone else see this

I've been noticing it takes longer to disconnect in general whether I log back on or not. After the viewer closes, the music stream will continue for quite some time, where it used to stop when the viewr went down.

I've had the issue with the music still playing for a long time now -- just figured it had to do with music already being in the buffer. I don't seem to notice any other out-of-the-norm issues though.

I'm really glad you posted this, as I thought it was because I use a Mac. On the RC, logging off takes so long it's ridiculous. It's almost funny. On the regular viewer, it's usually instantaneous, but I do hear the music stream for a time after log off - maybe for 10 seconds (?).

I noticed it when I went to the Nicholaz BE-V 18.5 viewer about a month ago. I was using the 18.0 Old School and never had the problem.

It takes me forEVER to disconnect. My hard drive runs for what seems like five or six minutes. I can do other things while this is going on - but slowly.

I think that symptom is because you have run out of memory while you were running SL, and began swapping out all or part of the application to "virtual memory", aka disk. When you quit, it recovers all that memory block by block. You may also notice your PC running just plain slower after SL finally closes, because Windows is such a pig that it usually fragments memory once it begins swapping. By the way, I'm using XP and Nicholaz Be-V, and haven't noticed it hanging around after closing. How are you doing it? Do you just hit the X, or use the File/Quit, or hit ctrl-Q?

When I log out of SL on the RC I freeze every time, I have to use force quit to leave, it's reported in JIRA other people are having the same problem too.

I'll agree with Nika's answer if you have 1 gig of RAM or less. I used to notice the same thing until I upgraded to 1.5, then 2 gigs.

I also have the same issues. The music will play forever after I hit the x so now I just turn it off before I log out and even then it seems like the log out screen is frozen. Sometimes it will crash while logging out which doesn't make much sense and then the crash report thing comes up. SL is so full of bugs it's incredible and ridiculous all at the same time.

I downloaded this free program called RamBooster v2.0 It's free. You can optimize and set the amount of MB of memory you want or set it to optimize your ram automatically. I haven't noticed any big difference using it though. L☻L When I set my draw distance to like over 200 it'll optimize every 5 seconds. ♥

The client never logs you outcorrectly. The statas logout bar just gies max half way thenthen closes the client. Music streams this has been occuring for atleast 1 month now. Streams just contine regaurdsless. THis looks like a very old bug ( or someone said memory leak thats been gong in for ages now).

I hope you are clearing the cache between log ins. I have some times experienced crashing when logging out and try to turn off music before logging since that seems to run on for a bit but not as bad as it was a few weeks back.
Now, I only have 500 ram and yet I don't have that much problem. Rudy my partner has 1 gig and has as much issue of log out at times as I do and she doesn't listen to her sound as often but when she does then there's the delayed log out.
I personally think its Quicktime but not tech savy enough to be sure and yet noticed its dug in deep in my system lol. Still remembering a few months back when warnings from LL came out warning of sound related hacking.

Nika's right, it's windows trying to clean up the page file when the viewer closes. Since SL is leaving active memory, windows purges the SL data from the pagefile and it often causes the final stages of ending the SL process to lag (and streamed music to continue) while waiting for the pagefile to finish. The amount of time it takes to clean up the pagefile and terminate the SL process depends on a lot of factors, but the most common ones are memory amount, processor/harddrive speed, how long you've been online in SL, and whether or not you have a fixed pagefile size. In my case, upgrading from 1GB to 4GB memory and a new processor has cut my "waiting for the music to stop" time from what used to seem like ages down to a couple of seconds usually. Your mileage may vary.
