What Exactly is a "Class 5" Sim?

I've been out and about looking for new land and keep seeing some touted as "Class 5" sim. Can someone enlighten me please?

Class 5 is the latest generation of server technology. Well the LAST one anyway - no doubt they are also about to be superceded.

Nearly all SIM are likely to be Class 5 in the near future, its just the best available SIM at the moment. The fact it's advertised is from when only a few actually were and they were just promoting the fact.

And how is this better? All I know is it took forever for the land to rez when I got there lol. The land I already own is far better!

I had a choice of two plots yesterday for another little project - I chose on the basis of Class 5. Wasn't advertised as such but the land was as cheap as those on Class 4 (my old OLD old old continent which was laggy as hell). Plus I can fly home from it as it's on Corsica

I think they went out of their way to advertize it when Class 5's came out because they were trying to justify the $500 purchase and $100 a month Price increase for private Islands.

Some gimmick, huh? Probably all sims are the same but they've now labeled them in different class categories to rake in more money. Expect this setup to continue on with each number costing more then the ones before.

Are they supposed to be less laggy? I'm not sure what my current sim is. I have NO lag at all where I am. I love my place, but without going into a long story, bottom line is my tier can let me go up to a bit over 4500 sq. meters, and I only currently have 3584 and there isn't any left to buy where I am.

I've got a neighbor that has this magical way of buying out land before it even goes up for sale - don't know how he does it. It's like he has ESP (or never sleeps; and the moment that box goes "yellow" scrambles over there). So, I feel like I'm wasting tier by staying (that, and many other reasons).

Class 5 servers full of rubbish will run worse than a Class 4 with tidy sims on them. Sounds like with this guy you should put your land up at a relatively high price and see if he still turns up to buy it. If not then he is def running a landbot looking for a set price.

I do most of my building while using view/land owners... so that I can clearly see my borders. Land goes yellow in world instantly it is put up for sale... and sometimes days before it goes yellow in the map..

Actually - that is what I'm going to try and do. I know he is looking to buy up the whole sim for himself already. I used to be friendly with him until recently, we had "words" about his greediness since he knew I needed more land/prims.

I don't think he's running a bot tho because my other neighbor just sold him his land, and had a personal conversation with him about it. I think he got screwed on the deal too, but of course I don't know what he paid for his land originally; and mine is waterfront and I know he is DYING to get hold of it.

I'm waiting until after I get back from vacation, and after the Forum party Rioko is using my land for in April; then I think I'll put it up at some ridiculous price and see if he bites. I have the only complete Linden protected waterfront lots left there so I think he'll pay almost anything to get his grubby hands on it.

He even tried to get me to trade my prim land that I hold in the sim which is pretty nice land for some crappy landlocked plot he has - AS IF. Because he "wanted to beautify the sim and get as much water land as possible". He just downright admitted it to me, so I feel like I have him tied up on this .

OMG ... if he is that desperate MAKE HIM PAY esp if it is waterfront. Make sure you quote MORE than you think he will go for - easier to haggle from a high place ...

Those are the ones that wear the really nice dresses an jewelry an stuff, or tuxes on the male ones. They have a *lot* of class.

Actually, you've misread the text - these are class "S" sims.

"S" standing for "super" of course, as is so often noted in SL announcements...most notably, "super sad".

So, in answer to your question the Class S sim is Super Speedy, Super Special, Super...
