Sometimes it clears up on its own in a couple of hours.
The usual things to try are to have someone send you an IM, give you a $L, offer you a friend request ... anything to get the servers to try to interact with you so they finish logging you out.
These generally don't work, because usually the problem is that the sim is a little borked, and needs to be restarted to finish logging you out. Do you know where your AV was when you logged out? If it doesn't clear up in another hour or so, you probably want to contact the sim owner where your AV last was and ask them if they could restart it sometime when it's not too busy. .

if you did not already, Trying another region, also helps sometimes
*If the option is not on the login screen, choose: Preferences, there check the option "show start location" or something alike.

I helped a friend with this once -- pushed him, paid him some money, IMd him, used a few mild weapons on him - and none of that worked. Finally 'orbit' sent his avi to the death it needed. So, maybe have someone go there and orbit you.

From: Colette Meiji You can click X and time you want, but you can never leave. LOL - in thinking about it, a lot of that song could be said to apply to SL.

Also, try rebooting your network/router/modem/etc that connects you to the internet. I've had this happen and it was on my end. Stupid router didn't wanna let go of the connection, I guess.
