I've been seeing quite a few SL ads on youtube lately. I don't think I've seen them elsewhere though.

LL has ads?
Huh. It looks like LL does and they're being smart about where they place them. See, they're hitting the areas they think their target customer might be. _____________________

Are you sure that it's not an affiliate ad?

Phil, you may be right (about it being placed by an affiliate and not by LL).
Clever, the way the ad pictures a blue-skinned avatar and plays up the word "Avatar"...that's sure to grab attention. As long as James Cameron doesn't sue, it may be remarkably effective. _____________________

He cannot copyright the word "avatar." It's not like he invented the word.
And that's not a blue skinned elf, it's just a blue skinned avatar. He would have his work cut out for him, if he wished to sue. _____________________

He would have his work cut out for him, if he wished to sue. I agree. But you have to admit, the maker of the ad WAS piggybacking on the success of the movie, at least a bit. Edit: Just wanted to say that as long as an ad doesn't actually violate copyright (and I don't think this one does), I think it's both legitimate and smart to imply to fans of one entertainment product that another entertainment product has some similar features and appeal. In other words: LL WOULD be wise to reach out to fans of that movie, because a lot of them WOULD love SL, once they give it a try. _____________________

The people of Pandora aren't the only ones who are blue.

Is this the first advert for SL that you ever saw? I've seen a few around here and there. Granted they've all been recently with the release of the Avatar movie, and all feature a really bad, un-movie-like recreation of what them blue people look like. Edit: Disappearing bottles is not the only cool thing one can make with a half glass of Glycerin ![]() _____________________

I seem to recall mention of SL ads years ago, possibly in printed paper magazines.
The Wayback Machine does not have a very good search system for finding anything you don't already know the domain for. Our forum search here only returns 200 results, which makes it less than optimally useful. Does anyone recall any ads on the web or any other media from years ago? _____________________
