What is all this about vampires in SL? I have just joined (Born?) and suddenly everyone wants to bite me!

That tells you how SL has changed. When I joined, everyone wanted to f**k me.


That would be "Bloodlines". It is a Vampire RP/Ponzi Scheme that has infested SL. Do a forum search, you will see a few recent threads on it.

Are you referring to the odious 'Bloodlines' scheme, which basically encourages players to spam for bites at the expense of role play?

If so you have my deepest sympathy. Vampire RP is very popular in SL or at least it used to be before this rotten pyramid scheme took off sometime last year. I cannot account the number of times I have been spammed for a bite although it would be no exaggeration to estimate at least once on every occasion I have left my parcel in-world. However, I can count the number of times a player has attempted at least some RP prior to requesting a bite on half the fingers of one hand. Thanks to Bloodlines many residents are so disenchanted with the vampire schtick that attempts at RP are often met with suspicion, if not outright hostility.

I usually bawl them out on the spot and the jerks usually reply with "You just have to say 'No'". I imagine the smart ass reply must be inscribed on their HUDs.

Personally I would like to have a HUD that jams the spam and sends the jerks into orbit without ceremony.

I thought we've already established that necklace then places you into another database? Thereby, your name is then in yet another system. You may not be bitten, but your name is out there somewhere being used for, what?

Easier to just say no, isn't it? As annoying as it is.

Welcome to SL. Just say "No" to their requests, and ignore them. If they get insistent, abuse report them. Same goes for strangers who walk up to you and ask for sex, or ask for money, or who shoot you. It's an annoying thing that some individuals do, and is mostly able to be avoided if you get away from the mis-named and uncontrolled "welcome areas", which the Lindens dump unsuspecting newbies into, and which are a magnet for troublemakers like those "Vampire" wanna-be's that prey on uninformed new players.

What if he wants to give them sex though?

There is this game called "Bloodlines". If you play it, you get points for biting people...so lots of players ask everyone in range if they can bite 'em. It's downright annoying for those of us who don't play.

You have several options.

1. Get the free "garlic necklace" offered by Bloodlines. This keeps you from getting unwanted requests, but does put your avatar name in their database. Not a security issue, but you should know.

2. Just Say No.

3. Find a friend who's a player and let them bite you. I'm not sure this will discourage other requests, but I note that after doing this, I'm not pestered by other players. Again, your name goes in their database...and it puts you at a disadvantage, if you decide to play the game later.

4. Get the "vampire dagger" object given out free at Cheree Bury's ChereeMotion pose store. This provides a fun way to counter those pesky vampires.

5. Join the Dark Side and become a Bloodlines player. I don't recommend this, because it will annoy two large groups...the non-players and the real vampire roleplayers. But what the heck, you might enjoy the game.

Can we stop calling their GAME "Roleplay"? Really... It's a severe detriment to the meaning of the word. (T_T)

If played properly, there is no good reason why Bloodlines shouldn't be regarded as roleplay. Bloodlines is crap, however, because most of the residents who play it may behave like desperate point-seeking jerks and many residents' perception of RP is badly affected as a consequence.

Sadly I have learnt this through experience: one of my alts is virtually* redundant because of the damage wrought by Bloodlines players on vampire roleplay.

Bloodlines isn't roleplay. Some people may choose to roleplay in the game, but that doesn't mean it's a roleplaying game.

Now, now, don't be like that. I did begin by saying "If played properly".

I understand that, I'm just saying that is not part of Bloodlines. You can roleplay in the context of any game, even Diplomacy and Risk, that doesn't make them role-playing games. A role-playing game encourages and rewards role-play in particular, even at the expense of character survival. Bloodlines doesn't do that.

Yes we have established that fact but for someone new maybe being on the piss off list instead of the hey im a walking menu list is a better option. As for the just click no well after clicking NO 45 times in 25 mins it does get tiresome
