Hello everyone!
I am hoping that somebody here knows of a site where I can go to find older versions of the viewers. Hopefully a site that you have downloaded from yourself and know that it works.
This newest viewer has my Linden grass looking like glass, is pixelating avatars unless I view them close-up, and, on occasion, my ability to select and edit textures goes out the window whenever any friend on my list logs on to SL.
I am running Windows Vista if that helps any.
I really, really want to get rid of the little bugs I have now. My friends and I worked so hard to make our lands look natural and I have to relog everytime a friend comes online when I am working on textures.
BTW, this is a great forum. I read threads often and have picked up so much info along the way.

Lilliput- have you tried the Release Candidate? I can't run the official one either with out messing up my Friends' List but have no problems what so ever with the latest Release one - there is no First Look available right now, btw.

From: Lilliput Little ...is pixelating avatars unless I view them close-up /me knows the answer to this one! Sorta anway. The Windlight stuff uses something called 'avatar imposters' to cut down on the cost of drawing people that aren't close to you - this is what you're seeing. I haven't seen anything that lets you say how far away people have to be before it switches to imposter mode but you can turn up the Quality slider on the Graphics tab of Properties (ctrl-p) to make people close to use stay as 'real' avatars.

Looks like others already addressed the issue of avatar impostors, as well as the location for the old viewer. On the other things... 1. "grass that looks like glass." Can you describe in more detail? Got a piccie? Is it washed out in appearance, or see through, or the wrong texture? Have you tried the old clear-cache-and-relog trick? 2. Editing textures. How do you mean? more about this please? Mari

Which viewer? If you mean the 1.20, it's test software and therefore not mandatory. As mentioned above, 1.19s are the current official releases.

From: Marianne McCann 1. "grass that looks like glass." Can you describe in more detail? Got a piccie? Is it washed out in appearance, or see through, or the wrong texture? It could be that she's just not used to Windlight. Have you tried forcing noon (world menu->environment settings, I think), Lilliput? IMO, the lighting at noon is probably closest to what the non-windlight viewer showed.

Thank you for your help! Kathy~I downloaded the non-windlight version of the viewer. I have my grass back!
Marianne~If I knew how to post pics, I would. The grass went from nice Linden texture to a shiny, slightly translucent and very flat appearance with the newest viewer. The select texture problem was odd. It didn't happen all the time. But, whenever I was editing textures, trying to align them...if a friend came online, the selected texture would turn completely white except for the very middle which would show a texture bullseye. Can't very well align a texture if I can't see it!
I also did try clearing cache. I also dumped the SL program, rebooted, and redownloaded it. I just needed the older viewer back.
Again, thank you all for your help!

Host them off-site someplace like Image Shack, Flickr, or Photobucket, then use bracketed IMG tags around the URL here. Like this, but without the leading spaces: [ IMG]http://www.whatevah.com[ /IMG]

Some day the Windlight-enabled viewers will be the standard, an I dun tink anyone would want to have them problems. Mari
