I was on Orientation Island Public the other day...pretending to be a noob from another country. I was minding my own newbish business when suddenly I got a private message from a stranger who apparently was ... not on the island? He said, "hey would you like to make some money?" I said, sure. He said, "ok I pay by click, I will teleport you to my location." At this point I closed the IM window and ignored his further attempts to TP me. He seemed desperate and kept asking me if I was coming. Has anyone ever encountered such an offer?
<Newbies, beware of strangers offering you money>
1. Scam? 2. Password Stealing Trojan? 3. Info harvesting?

1. Scam? 2. Password Stealing Trojan? 3. Info harvesting? Possibly... or he could be one of those pay per teleport campers, who earns money by teleporting others to a location.

Could also be something similar to Hippiepay or a new version of Google click fraud. For the click fraud, it's possible for the newbie and the fraudster to both get paid at the expense of a third party's website. It wouldn't have hurt anything to see what the guy expected. You know he can't fraud you if you don't give any of your own info or money or debit permissions. If it was something as bad as it seems, a quick AR explaining how he's trying to steal from newbies should at least slow him down a little and make LL aware of a new scam.

From: Phil Deakins I've never heard pf pay per TP before I've seen that a couple of times. You don't get credit for TPing the same person over and over, only unique visitors. This is a built in time bomb waiting in case the traffic system ever gets replaced by a unique TP count.

i believe its something like what argos has mentioned - a (unique avatar) pay-per-tp system. only the one that invites get the L$, either he is willing to split the L$ with you or it could be a new system.

Could be the TP thing, although even the best paying ones are 10 L$ only, so no reason to be desperate. I had a similar behaviour once though with a guy who wanted me to fill out surveys for him and then split the money with him. *rolls eyes*

just like the few posts above, i concur its a pay per tp system for the avatar that is tp'ing another. i get enough of them. i simply tell them "if youre not going to split the payment with me, i am not going to tp to your destination", at this point they start an argument at which point the mute button becomes handy.

Scam or not, it's kinda rude to start confusing newbies with this sort of thing right off the bat. Obviously he's not having any luck reeling in the older and more jaded SLers.
Arriving at SL is disorienting enough. Newbies ought to be left in peace to figure how to walk a straight line, find their way around, and begin their endless search for hawt dates without such distraction.
