Is it possible to buy land in the preview grid by buying the land in the main grid?

Or does the preview grid change which sims it uses?

You can't buy land and then go to the preview grid and own the land.

If the preview grid is running you may be able to buy land in the preview grid.

I checked a few hours ago and the preview gid Siva was not running.

The shortcut that gets installed for the preview grid may not have a command line parameter it needs to allow you to buy land.

I think there is a post by a Linden with the stuff you need to add to make the buying function work, most likely in this forum.

I know how to buy land as I was testing the land buying feature earlier.

The problem is that nothing in the preview grid stays and thus it is hard
to set up a spot with complex things to test.

For example I want to test the "Automatic auto return" system, but in order to do that I have to own prims that are older than that weeks preview grid. I know the preview grid copies the mainland sims, but how does it deal with ownership and permissions.

Another issue is security.
Is it possible for someone to find an exploit in the preview grid and let them see copies of scripts that are in the preview grid? If so then the preview grid should only use sims that are either normally blank or where people have given permission.

Another thought would be to set the preview grid up like the teen grid with it's own asset server. This would reduce the chances of the update to the main grid being applied in "God mode"

Possible in theory...

The preview grid includes only a few sims, and their land ownership is (mostly) in the state that they had in the main grid whenever LL does the snapshot for preview. So if you were to buy land in one of those sims, you would own it in preview as well at some future date, and presumably in all future previews so long as you continued to own the land in the main grid.

The big gotcha is that land in the handful of very old sims that are in the preview grid, and are not Linden land, is rarely found for sale. If it is for sale, it usually isn't at a reasonable price. A smaller gotcha is that LL, on occasion, has put land into the preview grid in some state OTHER than its current state in the main grid; for instance, in 1.9.1 preview, Da Boom had been returned to wilderness.

Footnote: 1.9.1 may, in a sense, be the shortest-lived version of SL ever, since it never made it to actual release at all -- it was renamed 1.10.0 during the preview process.

I was randomy clicking on the preview grid last week and I found that there are other sims.

One is really far to the east.
