It means that SL was down. According to http://status.secondlifegrid.net (this is where they put info about "official problems" , the problem is fixed now. You should be able to login again.

Can't sustain SL Get driver issue alert
09-06-2009 21:37
I've tried all three versions, including SnowGlobe, which allows the longest--about 2 or 3 minutes. Then the screen goes blank, I get an error message from windows about a driver has unexpectedly been dropped and recovered. And then a blank screen. I'm having a hard enough time figuring out what my avatar is supposed to do, but at 2 to 3 minutes at a time? Tried technical support and they said that I was unworthy of help through the ticket.
This sucks.
I have Vista, and satellite internet. (I have cable at one place i work.)
I checked some groups via the website, and can't get to them.
All I want is to be able to use my avatar, buy some clothes for her, and joined an affinity group. Is that so much to ask?
Contact me at this email alias, as I doubt I can get back to this forum.
Thanks in advance for any help. (Even the proper point shooting angle to destroy my computer with my .357 Magnum would be helpful.) dwodeestem@garrifulio.mailexpire.com

This is a forum for "the Preview Grid". Unless you are wanting to discuss something about the Preview Grid, the Resident Answers or the Technical forum would be better places to post.
Also it's better to start your own thread about your own problem, unless you are absolutely sure you are having the same problem as is being discussed in an existing thread.
Satellite internet service may just not work real well with Second Life owing to latency in the transmission time. The SL system requirements page says: "* Second Life is not compatible with dial-up internet, satellite internet, and some wireless internet services." Despite that, some people do report being able to run SL using satellite, but of course with some lag.
More detailed system information couldn't hurt.
Providing the exact complete text of any error messages one gets is much more useful than a partial paraphrased version.
