Last time I was in the preview grid the texture loading in most spots was a zillion times better than the main grid has been for a year or so.
In most sims there was no gray loading textures at all.
I know better than to think this will carry over to the main grid or even the next version of the preview grid.
I'm just curious if anyone notices any differences between the main grid and preview grid about the gray loading texture situation.

It does seem to be better. Don't know if this is because there is not that much traffic on the preview grid. But Now that you mention it I have now really notice any grey load textures. Have they made it so things say cached longer on our end?

Don't get your hopes up.
I haven't tried this preview yet, but so far, every single preview version I've tried -- that's right, every one of them -- has been massively better than the main grid in terms of loading textures and overall FPS, and then when the patch goes live, it's just as laggy as ever on the main grid.
My guess would be because the preview grid only has a fraction of the populace, so there's more resources to go around, and not as many people everywhere to bring the FPS down.

Lindens tell me the problem is not on their end, that it is, to quote, "in the pipeline".
Let me parenthetically inject the question: "Why is ok to refer to the internet's transmission system metaphorically as a pipeline but referring to it as a tube subjects one to widespread scorn and mockery?"
Isn't a pipeline a long specialized type of tube?
So if that were truethat the fault is in the pipeline then the preview grid and the main grid should be identical because they follow the same exact pattern of stops along when you do a trace on them. At least it does for me. The difference is only in the area that Linden is responsible for, once it reaches their ISP.
So I don't believe the Linden staff when they say the problem lies solely outside of their domain. Further, I think they know this is not true when they say it. If they don't, they should.

Hmm, in both the beta and the maingrid, there is no longer a white outline on the loading texture, just gray.
Is that how it is for others?

Performance will never be the same on both the Beta Test and the Main grid. Reason for the Beta Test Grid being faster is because its smaller and has less people in it so the Beta grid's asset server doesn't work nearly as hard.

You know The preview versions has been very unsbale more then say 6 or 7 month ago.....We all know what is beta and or preview thats why we do the testing......But frankly i seeing more and more bugs reproducing inthe final release clients more then ever. So there is no sence of saying this or that with this beta test clients.....We are missing ahell of a holes and etc. they are slipping thur. Just some real data from someone who is just saying the how it really is. We must step up and keep digging until ever a better client. Until then well........

From: Ron Overdrive Performance will never be the same on both the Beta Test and the Main grid. Reason for the Beta Test Grid being faster is because its smaller and has less people in it so the Beta grid's asset server doesn't work nearly as hard. Many people report the beta grid works much slower for them than the main grid does. It is supposedly (or was, things change) run on the older machines. In general my experience is that the beta grid works faster. Much faster, making a trip to the beta grid nice at times if one is tired of the lag. Another factor is that often one spends most time in beta in Linden land that is texture poor and prims poor compared to private sims. Has anyone answered the question of whether the white outlines on loading textures are gone for everyone.

Just some real data from someone who is just saying the how it really is. We must step up and keep digging until ever a better client. Until then well........ They were logging and fixing the bugs we found in this last preview. And believe me we found a lot of bugs. But something strange happened after the hacking incident. The preview we had been working on for two weeks debugging COMPLTELY changed. It seemed to me like they completely scrapped the preview that we had been working with and reverted or changed to a different one. Overnight the bugs we had been working with vanished and brand new ones appeared. We had 4 regions of land to buy and own and also had a few sandboxes. Then the grid was shut down and when we got back in those four regions had reverted and the UI had completely changed. That only left a handful of days for us to work with the last one. On the last day with the latest version I was still reporting bugs when they shut grid down again and we could not get back on until next morning after main grid update had already gone through. It was just plain weird. As far as preview being faster, I agree totally. It is at least four fold faster for me EXCEPT for loading inventory. Inventory is either same or even a little slower then main grid.
