L$ on beta grid more than 5000?

I never used the beta grid before. But now I'm experimenting so heavily with sculpties that I need a testing environment. Two questions though from a beta-newbie:

- My L$ balance on the beta grid is much more than 5000. It's actually around 56.000 on my first login on the beta grid. Where does the extra money come from, from my main grid balance?

- When I upload textures for sculpties, will it reduce my account with 10 L$ as usual? I guess so, but will that influence my balance on the main grid too?

Sorry to bother you beta-experts with my trivial questions.

Like a quick search would of told you,

Nothing that you do on the beta grid affects your main grid account.

Everything is the same except the amount of lindens. I'd consider reading the FAQ's around.

Fair enough. But that doesn't explain why my balance is way more than 5000 (56000).

My balance was around 12000, but a nice even round number (like 12000 or 12500 I forget which) whereas my main grid balance is NEVER that kind of number unless it's 1000 exactly (I make deposits to Ginko based on how much I have over 1000), so it's unlikely to be based on your maingrid balance when the snapshot was taken. It's also unlikely that it has anything to do with the number of beta grid updates where they set your balance to 5000, as then wouldn't we all have 5000*x where X is the number of balance changes since our first beta grid log in?

I don't know what it is either, but frankly, I don't care.

In my experience your beta grid balance is determined by something like:

how much you had in your main grid account at the time the beta grid userbase snapshot was made

adjusted by adding 5000 lindens -

adjusted by the transactions that have taken place on the beta grid since the last time the snapshot was made.

One line in the beta grid download page is just plain wrong; where it says "Updates made on the beta test grid will not be applied to the main grid. All users will have a starting amount of L$5000," it should read "of AT LEAST L$5000".

Community: Beta Test Grid

The Beta Test Grid is for testing purposes only. While user information is fetched from the main grid, all Linden Dollar, content, land, and other transactions are transitory. Updates made on the beta test grid will not be applied to the main grid. All users will have a starting amount of L$5000. As with objects, attachments, clothing, etc., any updates to a resident's account (including monetary transactions) on the beta test grid will *not* be reflected on the main grid.

NOTE: The Beta Test Grid environment is transitory and for testing purposes only!

1.16.0.106 The Beta Test Grid (ADITI)

The beta test grid's database snapshot is from April 13th, 2007. If your account is newer than that date, or your password has changed since that date, you will be unable to access the beta test grid.

So currently the beta grid balance should be what you had in the main grid April 13th, plus 5000, plus or minus your beta grid transactions since then. That's just how it seems to me, perhaps someone else knows better.

As for where the linden dollars come from, from the thin air.

Does it matter in the end where it comes from or why we have the extra cash? It's beta money and therefore worthless anyway :P

Beta grid L$ are not worthless, unless you consider the knowlege and improvements gained from testing to be worthless. When your testing requires uploads, (experimenting with sculpties or animations, for instance) those L$ can come in handy!
