Shrinking Pie Menu in 1.11(7) is annoying

The right click pie menu in 1.11(7) starts out big and shrinks.

I don't like it.

I am aware of the gestural menu and holding down the button instead of just clicking on it.

Is the shrinking pie menu considered to have a purpose, a function?

Of course it has a function: it's kinda cool. I like it.

I think it looks alright, they have bigger interface problems to worry about. New map sprins to mind, the big white results rectangle is rather ugly. I think it might work better to have everything thats on that right side actually be a semi-transparent hover.

A UI visual effect for the sole sake of having a visual effect is annoying, unecessary and just more lines of code for an overloaded dev team to maintain. Is there any benefit to this?

I even had it happen while right clicking on an object that was located to the far left of the screen, that the mouse curser did not jump back towards the middle (so it's inside te circle of the pie menu) but always issued "Take" from the menu on releasing the mouse button. I can't reproduce it now, but I inadvertantly took several objects back into my inventory this way.

My vote: remove this "feature", please. One more click is no hassle, we're all used to it.

Indeed - is this some how supposed to make up for all the broken stuff they refuse to fix? And renaming "find" to call it "search" is an advantage how?

I had a problem when right clicking on an object, it would go directly to the "open" and shows the contents of the object. I move my mouse fast after right clicking, (pie locations burned in my mind). Is this a result of the gestures?

Yep, if you click the object, then move to a menu option and release it there it will do that option.

And guess what? This bug PERSISTED into the release! I encountered it with an avatar on the left side of the screen.

Well it happens to me too... But little different with a HUD, tho reprodicable steps

- Right click hud
- release button -> Auto detach

You NEED to hold the button down and move the cursor to the neutral center point. It's annooying.

What's even more: right click on a patch of land and release the mouse button quickly. You end up in "About Land ..." as opposed to have an open pie menu.

Bug reported.

I guess none of you figured out how the Gestural pie menu works eh?

The way it works, you right click and move your mouse in the direction of the function on the pie you want to perform then let go of the right mouse button. You can also do a sweeping arc till the function you want is highlighted and then when you let go of the right mouse button the function is executed.

Its much more than a "shirnking pie" its a new feature, unforutnately not many people understand its intended use.

Sadly, it is also a new host of bugs.

right click close to the edge of the screen, such as on a HUD, and the PIE appears such that it is not centered on the mouse, since that would put it off screen. That means that the mouse is now OVER one of the segments, and as you release the button (which supposedly an instantaneous click should give the old functionality) it selects whatever you were over.

Alternatively, read the release notes, and the linden official comments, then try in game, and then tell me how you are supposed to (in a single click-hold) select sub-piemenu items, such as Take off --> Clothes --> Jacket.

There has been a spate of people offering accidental friendships, detaching or even dropping attachments, and generally getting VERY annoyed with the fact that this new feature, which nobody even asked for or wanted, has been mis-implemented.

Your comment "I guess none of you figured out how the Gestural pie menu works eh?" suggests that oppostion to the shrinking pie menu is based on ignorance.

Opposition to the shrinking pie menu effect is not based on being unaware of the gestural pie menu's existence and how to use it; it is based on the view that the shrinking effect serves no purpose , adds delay, and looks bad.

The shrinking effect I object to is not what occurs during use of the gestural pie menu modeu; it occurs when you don't use the gestural effect, by right clicking and letting up.

There is a poll on the issue in the general forum at /108/86/122821/1.html
