I have been unable to log into the Beta grid. I get a message saying the grid is down, but I see nothing in the blog about that. So, is it really down?

Yes, it is really down. No, nothing was mentioned. I'm running the linux version, so I just assumed that it was unsupported, but glad to know it's not just me having the problem.

I've only just downloaded the Beta version, and my avatar is older than the date required., I cannot connect however.
Is the Grid down or is there something wrong with my account?

I'm not able to log in to the Beta Grid (again) since Sept. 12. It keeps saying it's in Maintenence mode.

Me too - I'd like to upload and test some textures and builds to sell, but I can't.
It's been this way since at least Friday.

Aigh. Any way of finding out if/when it'll be back up? I have some "missing from database" items I'd like to grab uuid's for...

I was hoping to get some beta testing done this week, but I just suppose it is not to be. Perhaps in all the confusion with the Main Grid, LL has simply not realized that the Beta Grid is still in maintenance mode. After all, they keep saying they're doing things that will "affect the Beta Grid" as well, even though, to my knowledge, no one has been able to access it for a week now.
By the way, as a Mac user running the latest version of OS X, I can confirm that the Beta viewer does not work for Mac either. This means that the Beta Grid hates anyone running a mainstream operating system. Maybe I should try running SL in Mandrake Linux or MenuET...

SL's BETA GRID MIA!
09-19-2007 16:50
Yeah, ive been wondering about this as well. Usually it isnt down for such a long period of time, unless there is a problem (From my own observations) And from what i read, i thought it was only changing electrical work at the RL location. If main grid is up, it seems that the change went well (Main grid is up) But still no beta. I asked the group (Second LIfe BETA) if anyone knew when beta would be back up, and i have asked around in world to other friends that frequent beta. What i came up with is that people think there is no longer a beta, just the Hetgrid. But im not sure where to aquire it. Anyone know? Thanks a bunch

From: Rayy Giles Milo posted some stuff for the beta grid that doesnt answer 1 question that the residence are concerned about. Milo read what the residence post and answer our questions. Where is the beta grid, dont give us links to info thats 3 months old!!!! On SLDEV, a Linden said a few days ago: "We were planning to re-open it on Friday, but hit a snag with the deployed code.". They probably could not get it back online before the weekend. They also said that the beta grid will not be closed, now the HET grid is deployed, because: <quote> We still need it for testing at least two classes of testing: * Central service changes that Het Grid won't help with (it's hard for a singleton to be heterogeneous). And of course, yes, there are longer term architectural plans to eliminate that sort of broad dependency on a single unit. A lot of the grid-of-the-future work that Zero Linden talks about as his office hours lead in this direction. * Testing things that aren't even ready for Het Grid yet, either because they're still in internal testing (the betagrid is our biggest test grid, so we use that when things are getting "close" to ready) or because we're worried about behavior on the main grid and need some eyeballs before it gets there. (A permission exploit on even a single region on the main grid would be a bad thing.) </quote>

Thanks Meni
09-23-2007 07:52
Thank you for the information, Meni. I believe, however, that LL should post something about it in the blog. The numerous threads begun in the forums the past week on this issue indicate that residents are uninformed. Plus, the blog's latest info on the Beta Grid is incorrect and it has not been updated for over a week.

tiny update
09-23-2007 18:30
Just wanted to pass along the news, But ive heard from a handful of people that the beta grid *SHOULD* be back up and working on wednesday if they can fix the kink in the coding. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Can anyone confirm this? I'm dying without the beta grid at the moment LOL.

I hope so, this puts a kink in my testing as well. Of course, since they test out new server code there, it's pretty much a given that it will be back up ASAP, as long as they're still planning on doing major server updates.
