Yiffy Yaffle mentioned no muting of groups, so I wanted to add my own requested group feature: a Group Bank.
The new features allow the burden of things like "Show in Find Places" payments to be assigned to certain roles. This is great. I'm sure there are other uses for some of the other payment-related actions and some thought will have to go into the designing of roles to delineate casual members from ones with L$ to burn. What I had hoped to see was a Group Bank. If you get past the trust issues in grouping a Bank would be a great alternative to making group payments in everything from the sinks to larger projects that may be in the hands of many. I would love to be able to throw down a chunk of L$ for the group to use to buy land as I can with tier rather than choose a member and wait for the follow-through. Allowing this money to only be used for "Buy Land for Group" would seem obvious. The less obvious and surely more difficult to add faeture would be "Buy Item for Group" and a group inventory. The current permission system obviously would need some major work but if this overhaul is any indication hopefully that means Linden Lab is perhaps moving in that direction. Example: I join a group dedicated to parks and museums. It is long-established so I see no need to create my own. I contribute some L$ for group purposes. A member with group bank access comes across a great copyable flexi-tree product that would suit many of the group's parks. Buying for the group would then subtract from the bank, we'd all see the group's expenditures, and the more creative in the group would now have access to that object to go about decorating through an inventory tab of group assests.

The group roles implemented in 1.12 are the platform that future group changes will be implemented. It just doesn't make sense to implement a group bank without roles - would all officers be able to add and remove money? Would only the founder? What about groups where the founder left? Roles provide a nice, clean way to be able to designate specific people as the managers of group money.
At the same time it doesn't really make sense to hold back the release of group roles until every other possible group feature (bank, inventory etc) is available. We prefer to release in as small of chunks as possible. Roles is a first step that really makes a lot of the other group wanted features possible.
Releasing piecemeal also makes testing easier. The more complicated a new system the harder it is to properly test. Releasing in parts lets us test each piece seperately.
In other words, yes a bank and a group inventory are great ideas, and we hope to get them and other new group features implemented sometime after 1.12.

Thanks Kelly, I certainly wasn't trying to suggest waiting for such features before deploying what is being previewed. I just hoped that now that we actually get to see the user interface of the new features I coul throw out a design and how it could be integrated for upcoming revisions if it was something the rest of the community wanted.
Obviously Angel has pointed out I'm late to the party on this one. Though I had seen the concept mentioned I never saw it really laid out in an example format though my "skimming" could easily have missed one. My only hope is that if such things as group banks and inventories are on the block the UI design team will see how best to place their locations around the current design rather than having a new juggling of dialogs and tabs in the future!
