What can one do in the preview grid?

Could I without premium account get a piece of land and play with, try out the new estate tools and group functions with it? Is there any limit to toy-L$ you have, or is L$ connected to the main grid?
What could a non premium account, no money in pockets, no land owner do?

My understanding is that in the 1.12 preview everyone has a land allocation, so you can buy some land, and everyone gets enough preview linden dollars to buy some land.

The land parcels provided by the Lindens are small, but they are big enough to test the tools with,.

For fun and to do a test, get some friends to go with, all buy some land, set it to group land, play with terraforming and play with the new group tools. If anything goes wrong file the best bug report you can on the problem.

When done playing (umm, that is, testing), parcel the land up and put it for sale at so the next folks who want to test have some land.

LOL

Well, anti-push (per parcel) is coming in the next version (1.11.1), so we can expect a HUGE raft of complaints of non-working... shields, weapons, vehicles, personal transport systems, elevators, weapons (again), and probably many other things that have even less to do with push, but what the heck, people love a good moan :) - so it could well be time for a vacation!

Seriously, though, you can do anything that you can do in the main grid - exept see other people around, since it is pretty much always deserted.

You can also do useful stuff like use it to test texture uploads, say for clothing, without having to pay $10 for each one, since it is only preview money, and it gets reset from time to time :)

There is a limit to the amount of "toy-Lindens" you have in the preview grid. In Siva (1.11.1 currently), it's simply the amount of money you had in the main grid on the day they did the most recent snapshot (sometime in late June, I believe). In Aditi (1.12.0 at present), they distributed a bonus of L$5000 to everybody, plus the money you had in the main grid in mid-June. In addition, if you get stipends in the main grid, you also get them in both preview grids. If you run out, ask around; you can probably get people to give you more money, because there are plenty of people with lots of cash and nothing to spend it on.

In Aditi, there is indeed land for sale, though not a lot right now because others have already bought it up. (I was one of the early people into Aditi and bought my 4K plot, but I later subdivided it and sold all but 1K.) And everybody has enough fake tier to be permitted to buy some. Having land for sale isn't usually a feature of preview, but the Lindens made some available this time so people could test the new group features.

Aside from land, there isn't a lot to spend money on in preview. You can buy furry avatars from the vendors in Lusk and vehicles in Abbotts, and there are a few working vendors in Grignano and Miramare. The networked JEVN vendors don't work, however, because the servers aren't present in the preview grids -- they're probably in the sims where the store owners LIVE, which aren't part of preview.

If you're a content creator, another good use of preview is testing your designs. You can upload things there without spending your real virtual money, and then only upload the good ones to the main grid. There are three sandbox sims where you can play with building, and people often just go ahead and build in non-sandbox areas as well; since it's just preview, nobody really cares much.

Most of the time, the preview grid is pretty empty, so it's not a good place to go if you want to be social. If the main grid is down, though, there will usually be crowds at the Welcome Area, and clusters of people scattered around the world.

It would be real nice if people who bought land in the 1.12 preview, or otherwise own land in the preview grid, would put it for sale so that others can buy some.

No reason to sell it at a high price.

Well, looks like 1.11.1 has disappeared.... Does anyone have any information on this? Can't find any leads as to when/why/if...

If I download the Preview during the update will I be able to use that client to access the main grid after the update has completed?

Or is the 1.12.2.3 preview version different to the one that will be available for the main grid?

No, the 1.12.x is currently only a preview grid. If you're looking for a way into the maingrid while its shutdown for maintance don't bother.
