If it becomes difficult or dangerous, for technical or security reasons, to impliment the embedded Mozilla brower in the web tab, I would like to offer an alternative idea that gives us a lot of the same stuff without exposing the SL client to hacks.
Keep the Web profile tab, but don't embed a web browser. Instead, let us specifiy an image URL and a web address. When this tab is viewed by a resident, the image will be downloaded dynamically via HTTP and displayed on the tab filling it almost entirely (without the aspect ratio distortions applied to in-world images). The image becomes a clickable link that will launch an external web browswer.
I know this doesn't satisy those who want a fully-functional web browser in the profile, but it does give us the ablity to have dynamic externally controllable content (the image) along with a link to our web site ... and it doesn't expose the SL client to hacks (buffer overruns must still be detected and dealt with appropriately).
I dunno, it's an idea.
At the very least, we could have clickable links in the text of our profiles.
