Here are some observations someone might like to investigate further.
I was just flying around in the beta grid to get a feel of how the new physics are working. I use a flight-assist attachment (cyberflight 1.0 by Argent Stonecutter) and I noticed after flying up over 600 meters that I couldn't fly back down. I could stop flying and *fall* down, but not fly down. I removed the flight assist, and was able to descend, but very slowly. In fact, my rate of descent is actually less if I press the down button! This effect was obvious whenever I went above about 170 meters. Below this level, things work fairly normal.
Also, when flying up using the assist, the ride is now very rough and bumpy, whereas before it was smooth.

That's very weird that you couldn't fly downwards. Seems somewhat related to the problem I'm having with my elevators below.
It seems that most scripted things that use physics, such as vehicles or variations of vehicles are pretty broken right now.
For instance my elevators. They do not move up and down properly anymore. It seems as if they are way too heavy now or that they don't have enough energy/power to move up/down. Even when I set the buoyancy to 1.0 they still struggle or just fall to the ground and can't gain altitude.
This is a beta though and Andrew Linden said on the LL blog that most vehicles are broken right now.

That might be it then. I'm not sure about all the details on how the flight assist works, but I expect it uses much of the same stuff as a vehicle. Same with your elevator. I also noticed that it takes 300% to 500% boost to get me going the same speed going up as what was previously working at only 20% boost.
Of course that doesn't consider why I have trouble descending even when I remove the flight assist, but it could be related.
