"Simulator savestates save to local disk in certain situations"

I use "-purge" in my shortcut to clean the cache on every startup. What exactly are the simulator savestates that will be stored in my computer? Would cleaning the cache have an adverse effect on this? What about a clean reinstall after a sim crash? Guess I basically need to know what info is going to be stored on my harddrive and where so I don't mess it up. I do understand that it will only store that info on local disc in certain circumstances.

It doesn't mean us I don't think. I believe they mean that when a simulator is shutdown, it will save all it's information onto it's hard-drive, instead of some central back-up machine that must be using at the moment.
The result is that when the sim comes back up, instead of having to fetch information from the back-up server(s), it just fetches from local disk and is running again.

I could be wrong though, as not saving to disk seems like really odd behaviour to have held onto for so long
