Is preview client different to main grid client?

If I download the Preview during the update will I be able to use that client to access the main grid after the update has completed?

Or is the 1.12.2.3 preview version different to the one that will be available for the main grid?

I ask because I don't want to download it twice.

Thanks.

The version we are updating to today is a minor update to 1.11 (specifically 1.11.2). The preview is 1.12 which is very different and not being released this week.

And no, you won't be able to access the main grid with the preview client as the main grid is down. Though it may be a bug, but I've noticed that if the preview is for a patch of the current main grid version (such as 1.11.x) you can log into the main grid with the preview client when the main grid is up. I've done that with 1.11.2 a few times on the main grid.

And to answer your question *grin*

the grid to connect to is hard-coded into the client, and it is installed into a different directory on your hard drive.

So there is a command line switch to choose a grid, but I'm not sure if it actually works or not.

Also, it isn't uncommon for small fixes to creep in at the last second, while they are deploying onto the live (and hundreds of times bigger) grid.

So, on the whole, you _may_ be able to, but I wouldn't expect it to work on the main grid.

If you're hoping to avoid the bandwidth, bear in mind that 25Mb is nothing compared to simply playing SL. If you're hoping to get it a few minutes earlier, well, I've not yet seen an update where I didn't have _loads_ of time to d/l the new client and install it, and then wait and wait for a grid to connect it to. :(

Thanks, that cleared that up for me.

Cheers.
