my partner has been trying to get into the test grid, but is crashing during the login process every time she tries. normal grid client works fine for her, but this one's no go. she's tried uninstall/reinstall, clear cache and checked mic/speaker settings in control panel. i know i've heard of a few others with this or a simmilar issue, like Nylon. just wondering if anyone had figured out a potential cause/workaround, or if we just need to wait on another beta client update.

The html screen doesn't ever load for me when I run the Aditi beta, so it just says "loading..." but if I click the Connect button it goes ahead and connects.

Does your friend get any error messages? Does the crash reporter run?

that is a good question. thought it might be xfire but she disabled that and still had no luck. i'll ask her, but i imagine it's just vanishing into the void during the loading process.

One could try logging into different places.

On the login screen, go to preferences and turn all graphics settings to minimum.

There's a new voice beta as of April 2 - maybe try that.

I just loaded the latest voice beta and it's working on my older machine with an nVidia MX440 .

two good points. i'll have her try the newer download and different login spots.

is this new version actually a new version, or just the same thing with a different number so it won't trigger that bad update request at login? i don't see any new patch notes for this one. were there any changes?

**ahh i see yea, it's got some new options n such. cools! yea i'll have her try this

That would be me. The voice beta is a total non-starter here; it crashes during the "downloading clothing" phase every time.

I can run the non-voice 1.14.1 beta, but I have severe packet loss and lots of things never rez.

It just gets better and better

Yeah, same problem here. I'd hoped they would fix the x300/x600 crash bug that was in the main client before they pushed the 1.14 build over here, but I'm not even reaching the login screen. A black, empty "Second Life" window opens and then closes with no crash detection.

Has anyone tried editing their secondlife shortcut to add the -noaudio switch to it?

Right-click your shortcut and select "Properties"

Under the "Shortcut" tab, put your cursor in the uppermost text field and add "-noaudio" to the end of the string, allowing a space between whatever is already there.

Done. See if that helps. If it does I really have to go tap on a Linden's head and ask, "What good is a voice chat test where we have no audio?"

[Edit] Seems to of worked for me. At least, that got me to the login screen. Waiting on account maintenance now.

[Edit] Nope... I can get to login now, but I can't get in-world. It's crashing at about the same point as y'all's.

Turion 64, 1.25GB RAM, Radeon XPress 200M. Voice beta goes boom in the same place as on the desktop system, right after it says "your clothing is still downloading".

oki we tried again with the new client and she's still having the same issue. relogging in another place doesn't seem to have fixed either ;.;

one thing i'd like to check, can someone point me to the location of the voice client's crash/log files? i'm not sure where to look for them and they don't seem to be in the obvious places. figure mebbe i can at least get some idea of what functions it's hanging on.

Voice Beta login crash at download clothing
04-08-2007 21:45
Yes, yes, and yes ... nVidia 7300GS, 2GB RAM, etc. It crashes at "downloading clothing". I'll try some of the suggestions in this thread! Thanks, it's great to know that I'm not alone!

This is the only region that seems to work ... I see 2 green dots but can see nobody. I speak and nobody hears ... things are better than before but it's very lonely on the beta grid ...

I have been crashing fequently on a Radeon 9800 Pro. The crash usually results from either sitting on, or standing up from a scripted object. It's a quick crash to desktop.

Trying to log back in will usually result in the same type of crash during the 'precaching' or 'downloading clothing' phase.

Clearing cache fixes the problem every time.

I'm getting it on both the voice beta and the regular beta since the last update. It'll start to log in and start loading the precache and then when it would normally close the loading screen and go in world it crashes and Vista says that DEP prevented it from executing even though I have DEP turned off.

What versions are you using? Have you tried logging in to a different sim?

Crash with ATI Mobility FireGL V5000
04-17-2007 02:18
Yes, as with all .14 versions I crash immediately after precaching is completed. The only way to stay alive for a couple of minutes (10-15 at the most) in a .14 environment is by setting graphics settings to a bare minimum...

So if Linden doesn't decide to keep a .13 version working until they decide to support the above mentioned type of cards, then this may be the last day that I'm on SL, and give up my paid account, sell my land and say good bye to my friends...

Upgrade postponed due to unresolved problems, per the blog.

2007-04-18 release postponed, downtime still required
Tuesday, April 17th, 2007 at 12:38 PM PDT by: Torley Linden

The previously announced release of a new Second Life version has been postponed, because several high-priority bugs are unresolved, and we’ve also been concerned about Resident reports of crashing and being unable to login to 1.14. Erring on the side of caution, we’re going to take time to review more data before this release goes out.

Downtime is still required for Operations maintenance and Orientation Island fixes, but shortened to an estimated 7-10 AM PDT.

For the love of God, Satan, The NY Rangers, even L. Ron Hubbard...who the heck ever, please do something about the insta-crash on login or alt + arrow keys...

PLEASE HELP FIX IT SO US VISTA USERS DON'T GET HOSED LIKE ARSEHATS TRYING AD NAUSEUM TO LOGIN...THIS IS MORE FRUSTRATING THAN HEARING GWB TALK ABOUT THE MERITS OR IRAQ OR HOW GREAT FLEX PRIMS ARE SO WHO CARES ABOUT CRASHING (yes I have heard that argument)...

No matter the cause, just please help fix this ASAP...it's ruining businesses, general user participation and ultimately giving SL a bad rap across the board and that is and will become an ever increasing PR nightmare, this I promise from what I've been told, if VISTA works with SL the way Dick Cheany works with a shotgun on his friend's arse while hunting small game.

Just help...please...Robin, can you do you anything for us? Thanks!

Love always, Calix :)

There's a new version to try, 1.15.0.

If it crashes, does the crash reporter work? Do you have the crash reporter turned on?

Have you upgraded your video drivers to the latest available?

Yep updated vid drivers, current as of 4/10/07...got lots of pwr for this so nothing should be an issue...time will tell, but thanks for the concern...i seriously cant be the only one having these kinds of issues, ive heard of the ati problemos and other vista stuff and other just random stuff...and being in SL for over 2 yrs and having done a lot for LL and promoting and being a involved I guess I just expected a lil more concern, not b/c Im old, but b/c if its happening to me, damn, it prolly is happening to people who are so new that have no idea what to do and then leave and tell their friends (in PR & Advertising 1 read = 2.5 mentions - that is the numerology for how advertising and pr is measured and sold)...I would hope they would be on this b/c well I've told a lot more than 2.5 ;p

Cheers!
