Myself and another preview tester were sooooo excited about the eyedropper tool in 1.11's release notes, but we can't seem to find it.

I'm thinking its the new box next to the "Apply Immediately" checkbox, but clicking it just removes the edit focus.

I bug reported it but was just wondering if I was even looking in the right place.

I think maybe they didn't finish the ui stuff on this, or something. Here's how I made it work:

Create two objects, one with a texture you want to duplicate, one just plywood. Select the plywood one, and go into the texture picker. See that little white box to the left of "cancel"? Left-click that once, then click the face you want to eyedropper-pick from, and it should duplicate to the new face.

Also, it seems you must have a full perms copy of the texture in your inventory in order to grab a copy off another object. This might somewhat limit the usefulness of this tool, although I guess I can understand why they did it that way.

I, as well, tried to get this to work. I couldn't figure it out for the life of me. And I was using full perm textures I had in my inventory. Other than that..1.11 and 1.12 are   WOW!

Have an object in build mode, click white box, then click somewhere else and you will get the same color on your object.

I keep a bunch of colors saved in and at times my colors would get reset. I can't express how much this helps out. Picking textures too! Too cool. I would suggest though that a "eyedropper" tool or icon be placed in the color chooser window to signify a color/texture picking tool can be used. Needs to be more obvious. Other than the bug report I made about the "no eyedropper icon cursor showing when color/texture picking", this feature rocks.

Excellent!

As Lex said, just do the following...

1) rez two plywood cubes

2) change the color and texture (using a full-perm texture) on one cube

3) make sure you're in edit mode (and on the Texture tab) and select the plywood cube

4) click on either the texture swatch or the color swatch square to open up the corresponding (texture or color) picker window

5) click the little white square next to the cancel button

6) click once on the second cube (the one that's NOT plywood)

7) click select and that should do it :)

The icon is coming. Things on the preview grids are in progress and not finished.

sorry!!!! ur right! lol

to get it to work:

1/ select the prim u wanna copy the texture to
2/ click the white box beside 'apply immediatly'
3/ click the prim u want to copy the texture from
4/ ur prim turns to that texture

it's exactly the same for colours

BUT WE COULD ALREADY DO THIS

i thought the eye dropper would pick out a SPECIFIC COLOUR from the actual texture
eg
if it was a texture of a blue sky and green grass... i wanna be able to pick out that specific green from the grass in the texture!

You're right, we could already do the same thing in a more roundabout way, and I'll probably continue to use the old way because it also lets you copy specific texture offsets and settings...but I noticed a bug in the current client where it doesn't always apply the texture to all sides of the prim you're trying to copy the texture to. So maybe this will be more reliable.

I was hoping for specific color matching too, like a real eyedropper tool...and not just from prims you own, but from anything on the screen, like getting the RGB for the sand texture on the ground, let's say.

I think this is an excellent help and can be built on in the future.

You can pick up colors from prims you don't own - nice for matching things.

If you picked up screen colors it would be nice, but I think it's very cool to be able to pick up the build colors without the light changes.

I'd prefer to have a swatch tool window with squares of texture previews with control of all the settings (texture, color, U/V, offset, rotation, flags, etc) and a set of flags as to which of them are "active". Have this pop up from a button on the Texture tab of the Edit menu.

If that doesn't quite make sense, here's the details of the idea:
  1. A new button on the Texture tab of the Edit window called "Swatches"
  2. Click "Swatches" and a new window opens with a number of empty (white) squares in it.
  3. Below each square is a strip of icon buttons for "Set", "Clear", and "Options" (at least)
  4. You can still edit the values in the Texture controls.
  5. When you have the texture the way you want it, click "Set" on one of the empty swatches.
  6. The swatch now shows the texture with color, rotation, etc as well.
  7. Select a new object and the Texture-Edit window shows its current settings.
  8. Click the texture swatch we just added to the Swatches window.
  9. The values in the Texture-Edit window change to match those recorded in the swatch.
  10. The object has changed to these settings in a single click
  1. Now click the "Set" button under another empty swatch to make a copy of this one.
  2. Click the "Options" icon below it to open a new window with a list of checkboxes.
  3. There's a checkbox for each of: texture, color, U, V, offset X, offset Y, rotation, etc.
  4. Each checkbox defaults to ON, but you can set them however you like.
  5. Turn off all but texture and the "repeats" number. Close this options window.
  6. The swatch preview will only have the scaled texture now. No color, rotation, etc.
  7. Select a new object that has an existing texture, color, UV, rotation, etc.
  8. Click this new, limited swatch.
  9. Only the values that were turned ON in the options window are changed.
  10. All other texture traits remain as they were on the selected object.
  11. In this case, we've only set the texture and the texture's scale to match the swatch.
  12. If that object had a color or a rotation, those would remain unchanged.

Why do I suggest this? We have a (possibly massive) list of textures that is only displayed by name. We have a selection of color swatches, but only a limited number of them. We have no way to record any of the other values in the Texture-Edit window.

With a tool such as this, you could create swatches for the walls, floors, and ceilings of your structure. Then as you build, making new prims fit the design's look takes only a single click of a swatch.

This Swatch window idea would make texturing MUCH, MUCH easier.

Hmmm... I best cross-post this to Feature Requests...
