Is it really gone? "Missing Texture"

So when one of your textures in your inventory becomes the dreaded "Missing Texture". Is it gone for good? Will it come back over time? Or delete it now and get on with life and re-upload it? Just after this last update of 1.12.2.6 another one of my texture became a Missing Texture. I kind of laughed seeing that this was one of the fixes for this version. Then I got angry, shortly after that I was confused by not dazed.

Makes you wonder what happens to all these missing items. Just dead space on the servers with no home. aw so sad *tear in eye*

I ran into an "interesting" AKA frustrating thing this morning before shutdown. I was retexturing something, clicked on my mural texture and nothing happened so I clicked the one above it and the mural DISAPPEARED. I looked in the trash, recent items and everywhere I could think of but it and another mural texture 5 items up were GONE.

I'd rather have the image not found show up than what I had happen.

well the name of the texture is still in my inventory but when you click on the texture name "missing image" texture comes up in its place. Even if I copy the UUID can have a script apply it still comes up as missing image. Even the objects that where once using this texture and left in world had missing image texture on it the next day.
