The 1.16.0.2 Aditi Beta is available now at:
http://secondlife.com/community/preview.php

This shows "Second Life 1.16.0 (2) May 17 2007 17:12:36" in the About Second Life display.

The list of names of residents helping to make a better Beta is much shorter than the ones I recall seeing previously.

some of those names have been duplicated so that list is shorter than it at first appears.

No Linux version yet. :(

And is the Linux viewer ever going to get voice chat?

No, it's not. Still 1.16.0.0, which is locked out. (I use Linux)

When they signed the contract with Vivox to write the voice software one of the stipulations was that they had to create a linux voice client. So eventually there will be voice on Linux. However, since LL doesn't program the actual voice client program (they just program the interface between SL and Vivox's program), it's up to Vivox when the voice client is coming out.

Sigh... does this mean that I won't be able to check out sculpted prims until Vivox gets around to creating a Linux voice client? The beta client that one can download for Linux dies immediately upon beginning to render my surroundings; it's now two versions behind the beta client available for Windows and Macintosh.

Sculpted prims aren't truely all that exciting unless you have a way of making the textures yourself. I.E. access to Maya.
They are nifty, but it's not like checking out some of the other things that have happened in Beta.
As soon as I made my klein bottle I got disinterested in it, waiting for it to show up on the main grid so I can put it to some real use.
Though I will be making some more textures this evening so I can futz around with llSetPrimParams() to make morhing shapes.

No. This only means you can't use voice in the Linux client right now.

Actually, it doesn't run at all now, because the update requires a new version download, but the new version hasn't yet been posted for Linux. So all our testing is on hold, with no explanation yet.

I understand Blender will work too, and it's free (open source).

Wings3d is very simple to use, and it has an actual exporter. So cost is not a barrier, just skills, which in 3d is formidable enough :)

Milo says he thinks the only thing changed was the voice software. He didn't specify further or give a link to the url for the release notes.

We'll see if Philip responds to my question.

It would be nice to know who to ask.

Oh, that's right, I'm basic, soon I'll know who to ask. Nobody. ;)

it sure seems like something changed with the compression of textures. I'm getting *much* better results with a 64x64 texture in this release.

It's like night and day. Much, much, much better!!!!

Or I'm losing my mind. LOL That's possible, too. :)
