Release Notes for Second Life 1.16.0(104) May 21, 2007
=====================================
New features:
* The "Chatterbox" is a new communication hub that brings text and voice chat for group, individual (one-to-one), and spatial conversation into a single user interface.
* This is the first iteration of the Chatterbox and it isn't perfect yet, so you may notice a few bugs.
* The "Friends" tab of the Chatterbox shows a list of friends, via the "Friends' button in the viewer.
* The "Groups" tab of the Chatterbox shows a list of groups to which a resident belongs.
* The "Near Me" tab shows voice speakers in close proximity to a resident.

Changes:
* Audio devices are now enumerated and can subsequently be selected for use via the API. A device enumeration is provided when a user connects and when a a new device is added or removed.
* Local audio intensity events are now exclusively generated by the local microphone energy.

Bug fixes:
* Fixed VWR-657: Beta -> Linux -> Startup -> Crash
* Fixed object loss occuring when taking an item
* Fixed render issues with tapered cubes
* Fixed sculpt texture loss after when texture picker is cancelled
* Fixed flexible sculpted prims becoming distorted
* Fixed textures applied to sculpted prim at a 90 degree rotation
* Fixed connection issue for users with Speedstream 6300 w/ VOIP routers connecting via port 5060. Failed registration attempts with Vivox servers on UDP port 5060 will automatically be attempted on UDP port 5062.

Just tried it; it crashed after a few seconds.

Well it would be really nice to be able to use the voice feature and participate in the test grid but so far it has been awful - the lag is terrible. I have no problems on the main grid but the lag in this beta update and the previous build is absolutely awful. Plus I couldn't find anywhere where voice was actually operating (and tips here anyone?).

I am extremely dissapointed so far with this, and from what I have seen in the forums there are others who have experienced this too. Come on LL! You want people to be enthused about this and look forward to it. Based on what I've seen so far, you have got to be kidding. I know it's a 'test' grid, but really.....:(

Yeah, it crashed on me too.

Sigh. I see that 1.16.0.105 is now available for Mac and Windows to run on the beta grid, so I hope that the problems with 1.16.0.104 were fixed

OTOH, my ability as a Linux user to try out the beta grid lasted less than a day, as the beta grid now refuses to let me on with 1.16.0.4.

The 1.16.0.105 seems to work alot better - no constant crashing, unbearable lag or voice problems.

This is starting to really irritate me! How can they have decent testing of the Linux client on the beta grid when they stay one release behind? Is one day a week good enough? Arrrgh!
