So when trying to log in for the stress test (which the stress is apparently trying to log in) I got the error "Could not connect to version manager"

A: What is that?

and

B: How do I make it go away?

The version manager would be the process (server side at LL) that checks what version of the client you have and sends a "you need to upgrade" signal if you do not have the current version.

I do have the current version. Curiously the regular client gets stuck at Verify Protocol Version and then usually crashes as well.

I didn't say it had to do with having the current version or not. The verify version server sends an "ok" if you do. The problem is that your client isn't getting that packet (or any responce from that server).

Could be a network problem, could be tha the server is down, could be flooded...
