[GRID] STATUS UPDATE: Second Life is open again!

Following up from what was announced earlier:

There is another attack on the grid, necessitating that we shut it down to log-ins and clean things up. We anticipate this process will take a couple hours, and will post here when it opens up again.

I know this is totally frustrating -- for us too. We're working with the authorities to go after the people responsible for these attacks, as you know. When I have information to share I'll pass it on.


We're continuing to work on opening SL again ASAP. Cleanup continues behind the scenes as I type this--it's happening!

Additionally, in our efforts to be more proactive against these types of problems, it's been an ongoing priority of ours to focus on better tools to stop these attacks in the first place. The forthcoming Second Life 1.9.1 should have further enhancements, and you're welcome to download the preview right now; the test Preview Grid is still open.

Again, apologies for the inconvenience. There'll be more updates, and when SL is open again, I'll post here. Thanx muchly for your patience.

Update: As of this writing while things are being worked on, I can't get into Preview Grid. There's been a number of posts about this too, so it's not just you. It's important we get the Main Grid back up ASAP. Please keep watching this space for further updates.

Investigations and repairs are proceeding and continued work is being done to get Second Life back open.

I know it's longer than expected, and personally apologize for the tension and anxiety felt during this time due to such an inconvenience. Please be assured that we're doing all we can.

I'll be on the SL Forums watching and communicating what comes up. I'll also update when you can login again.

Second Life is open. If you've not been able to login and get a "region handshake" error, please do this:
  1. Close SL.
  2. Click on this link: secondlife://Plum to start SL and log you in at a different region. I'm in Plum right now.
  3. IM me inworld and let me know the name of the region you were in last, so we can have it checked out and reconnected to the grid if need be.
