As part of our education program at Linden Lab, we are setting aside two public spaces for Instructors to host classes and teach Second Life skills to the community at large.

Since education in Second Life is a community-wide effort, we'd like to present an opportunity open to all interested Residents to submit "construction bids" for the stage areas!

The two sites of the stage areas will be: Pooley (255,2) and Oak Grove (170, 170). There are currently two older builds at those locations. (with plenty of room for improvement!) Please take the opportunity to visit these locations and get a sense of the terrain and space at these areas.

Essentially, we'd like a large central area (perhaps an ancient Greek-styled theater in the round or a natural amphitheater) and plenty of seating/standing room. Aside from that, we'd simply like the whole place to look creative and cool. Feel free to experiment.

If you are interested, please submit the following to Jesse Linden via email at jesse@lindenlab.com:

1) A mock-up of your proposed design (either actual models or photos).
2) Some snapshots of previous builds you have completed.

We will accept bids until 5pm on Thursday, November 24. We'll review all submitted bids and make our decision by Friday November 25 at 5pm. We will then announce the winner in this announcement thread. The Resident who wins this bid will then have until December 2nd to complete the final construction.

The bid award is $25,000L for the Pooley location and $15,000L for the Oak Grove location.

Thanks for your participation,
- Jesse

Woops! My sincere apologies for not realizing that the deadline for submitting bids for this project falls on Thanksgiving day. Since most of the Lindens will be out of the office for the Holidays, they will be unable to review bids. Thus we will be moving back the deadline to the week after.

We will now accept bids until 5pm on Thursday, December 1. We'll review all submitted bids and make our decision by Friday December 2 at 5pm. We will then announce the winner in this announcement thread. The Resident who wins this bid will then have until December 9th to complete the final construction.

Thanks for your patience and understanding with this oversight

With many great entries, we had a tough time deciding which group to award the bids for the two instructor areas to. In the end we chose based on funtionality, aesthetic design, and breadth of building experience.

To this end, Adam Zaius and Oz Spade's bid for the Pooley space proved to be the most compelling.

For the Oak Grove space we chose the group, Tiny Seadog (www.tinyseadog.com), headed up by Cory Edo and Makaio Stygian.

Congratulations to the winners and all who submitted bids helping make Second Life that fantastic place it is!

New Instructor stage areas are up ! Check em out at Pooley (244, 6) and Oak Grove (181, 172). To celebrate these new stage areas we will be giving out Linden $ bonuses to approved instructors for a limited time.

For the next month, Dec 9th - Jan 9th, if you are an approved instructor and you submit a pic of your class @ one of these new instructor areas with your class payment claim, I will pay you $1000L instead of the usual 500L$. In addition if you have submitted your class to the events calendar I will pay another bonus of $250L. This means up to $1250L per class taught at one of the new instructor stage areas.
