Updated - Second Life 1.7.2 Release - Wed. 11/9/05

In our continuing effort to improve the Second Life experience we plan to release SecondLife 1.7.2 on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 (pending final verification of fixes). The grid will be down from 6am to 12pm SLT for this update. A new viewer will be required.

The major fixes in the new version are for issues with low simulator and viewer FPS. We are working diligently to resolve these problems as quickly as possible, although they may not all be addressed by this update. 1.7.2 is also scheduled to contain fixes for a problem with Mac clients crashing when opening or saving files as well as a problem saving textures using the File menu.

Release notes will be posted here in their entirety when the release is finalized.

Release timeframe changed to 4am to 10am SLT

We plan to shut the grid down at 4am SLT instead of 6am SLT for the 1.7.2 release. SecondLife should be open to all residents by 10am SLT.

Today's update has encountered a delay - the new anticipated time for the grid to open is 12pm SLT. Thanks for your patience.

* Resolved an issue that could cause client to take minutes to quit when logging out
* Fixed a Mac crash that occurred after trying to open or save files
* Objects attached from Inventory now remember their last attachment point

* Fixed an issue with link-distance rules not working
* Land owner overlay colors are now correct after teleport
* File > Save Texture As... now saves to correct filename
* Fixed an issue where an external link to an SL location opened up a new window even if an SL client was already open
* Foot shadows no longer render over the top of avatar feet
* Rescaling a dropped attachment no longer makes it non-colliding
* The frame rate when the local lighting option is turned on has been improved
* Avatar textures now take less time to bake
* Various client crash bugs have been fixed
