LEGO MINDSTORMS invites the Second Life community to create the next Big Robot on Campus.
WHAT IS THIS?
Lego Mindstorms' Big Robot on Campus is a program of events around the launch of the next generation of LEGO MINDSTORMS, the consumer robotics tool set that challenges LEGO fans ages 10 and up to build the robot of their imagination. The kickoff event is at Wired Magazine headquarters in San Francisco next week, and video from it will be streamed live into Second Life. This event will feature real life MINDSTORMS robots created by Wired staff, and Wired staffers discussing their creations.
In conjunction with this live video in Second Life, LEGO MINDSTORMS will be inviting users to create and display their *own* LEGO robot. These robots will be on display during the Big Robot on Campus event in Second Life, and on display in the real life attendees of the Big Robot on Campus event at Wired.
Additionally 50 participants will be selected at random from attendees at the Second Life event to receive a real life LEGO MINDSTORMS T-Shirt.
WHEN AND WHERE IS THIS?
The event will take place on Thursday, July 20th at 3:00 PM Second Life time, on the Supernova sim.
HOW IT WORKS:
Join the open membership 'Big Robot on Campus' group in Second Life. You'll receive a modifiable, non-transferrable Alpha Rex model and a set of individual MINDSTORMS pieces, and you'll be registered for admittance to the event.
You'll have between now and July 20th to create your own customized MINDSTORMS robot in Second Life.
Some ideas to get you started:
- A robot with working NXT sensors (see here: http://mindstorms.lego.com/Overview/)
- A wearable robot avatar
- A robot that can be communicated with remotely via a HUD user interface
- A robot (or robot design) that solves a problem that you face in Second Life.
If you need inspirations for design, check the LEGO MINDSTORMS website, particularly the MDP Invention Gallery.
On July 20th you'll have a chance to show off your creation and see other people's creations, while watching and being watched by participants at the live Big Robot on Campus event at Wired in Second Life!
