Linden Lab offers L$500 for you to host an educational event. We currently support a wide range of events where you can share your knowledge to help others make the most of their Second Life.

We will support beginning, intermediate and advanced classes. Examples include: SL Basics, Building, Scripting, Texture design, Land Tools, Group Tools, Land 101, Using the SL Interface, Starting a Business, How to use Animations, Avatar Customization, and Intro to Particles. Your own suggestions are very much encouraged.

Qualifications -

We are looking for hosts who have been in SL for at least 60 days and who have and will maintain a clean Customer Service rap sheet. This means you are ineligible if you’ve ever been suspended – before you apply or after you’ve been accepted. Any warning from Customer Service in the month before applying will prevent you from getting support. This applies to any alt accounts as well. Please don’t apply for support from more than one account per person.

Process of applying for support –

Please visit our Volunteer Site and fill out our simple application to become an approved instructor.

Please note, it can take up to 3 weeks for applications to Mentors, Greeters, and Instructors to be approved.

Once you receive notification of your status as an approved instructor, email class@lindenlab.com with a short description of your class. You should include the title and a few things that you expect the participants will learn during the class. You do not need to wait for your course to be approved. You can begin holding classes right away once you have sent in your course description.

Classes receiving Linden support should be open to all SL residents, and therefore should not contain subject matter that could be considered offensive.

You may host the event on your own land even if it’s in a Mature sim so that you can boot disrupters. You may also use the Linden Instructor Stage Areas at Oak Grove 181, 169, 13 or Pooley 244, 4, 49 if you choose.

Scheduling –

Try to schedule events at least 2 hours ahead of time to give your class exposure to potential students. Please use the Add Events feature on the website to make sure your class is listed in the events calendar.
Be sure to select the 'Education' category when posting and remember that postings for events should not include advertising.

Limit on the number of classes supported -

We will support a maximum of 2 classes per day. However, this limit only applies to Linden support. You are free to teach as many classes per day as you like but you can only receive a maximum of L$1000 in support for two class per day.

In order to receive support, classes must have at least 5 in attendance. Lindens will occasionally monitor your classes to make sure the content matches up with what is in the description.

Getting paid -

After you host a class please send an email to class@lindenlab.com with the total attendance, time, date and name of the class. Please be patient as it may take a week to process your L$500 credit.
