I have a lot programs. Tons of downloaded programs. I have so many programs installed I can't remember what they all do. Some of them I may not even have used once, others I downloaded long ago and used a time or two and then moved on to something else.

Is there a way to automatically find out what they all are? Not looking them up one by one but just saying, hey, here's my Programs folder, find out what this junk is and make me a table with the name as shown in the program folder and a description of what the heck it is that the program is supposed to do.

Lol, just throw everything away that you don't use or recognize. After that, make a sweep with CCleaner and never be bothered again. :)

I'd reinstall the OS, but eh that's me,
backup what you do *DO* use and need to save,
double checking what you'd want saved,
nothing like a format, well besides that new hardware smell.
There are few programs that list process, what's installed, what needs to be updated.
Need some Add/Remove program that lists everything.
Something like Total Uninstall would be good but it's not freeware anymore.
There is http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/myuninst.html
Other sites I use,
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/default.aspx
https://psi.secunia.com/
http://www.filehippo.com/updatechecker/
http://www.hijackfree.com/en/
I could go on what's in my comp toolbox for easy refs.

Most programs don't include any sort of tag that describes what the program does. So a tool that would tell you what they all do is out.

This is a pain but it goes fast, you need to open each program and look at it. Is this something you use? Maybe it's something you intended to use but forgot about. If it's not something you want then uninstall and move to the next one. Is it something you use often? Consider moving a shortcut to your taskbar or desktop.

I always right click and look at properties. If I still can't figure it out I google the thing. Pain in the ass.

Sue, if you find a programme that does that kind of sorting automatically...

....please tell me, I want it, too! ;)
