The Community: Resident Sites page lists some forums created for use by SL users. There is a significant omission from the list: the forums at SLUniverse. SLUniverse is to my knowledge the oldest site of its type in existence. SLUniverse is the product of the person behind the well known avatar Cristiano Midnight. Cristiano is perhaps best known for a site called Snapzilla, the extremely successful place your snapshots turn up at when you put pics@slpics in the To: field and click the send button. Cristiano is also known for his Ano-mations store where many many folks have bought dance animations . The forums at SLUniverse have 5,860 posts. 2,877 people have registered at forums.sluniverse.com. The SLUniverse site also has a knowledge base with some very nice tutorials. SLUniverse.com also has an IRC client to connect to the EfNet #secondlife IRC channel. How SLUniverse.com could possibly have been left out of a list of forums is difficult to grasp, but then I've overlooked some important things and made some inexcusable errors in my lifetime; I suppose oversights like this are just part of being imperfect humans. Folks looking for a forum to take the place of the General and Sandbox , um, Off Topic forum that have closed here recently should not repeat the error of overlooking the great grand-guardian of SL third party forums, forums.sluniverse.com . If you're new and don't miss the old General and Off Topic forums, well that's fine too, everyone's welcome.

Even though I mostly just lurk, I'll be doing most of my lurking at SLUniverse.com.
I didn't know the chat was connected to #secondlife on Efnet! Cool, thanks; now I can delete mIRC.

The new, little chat applet at the top left of the site is not connected to the #secondlife channel. That is a new thing of it's own. There is an IRC chat linked to on the menu at the left that looks like this: You might also note there is a voice chat server, one that uses Team Speak, if my memory serves. Perhaps in this time of transition a lurker shoutout at sluniverse is in order.

The list that's on the Resident site page is a rotating list that pulls listings, via RSS, from the longer list that's located at http://del.icio.us/secondlife. For a full list of Resident run sites, along with press mentions, click through to the link.

The list that shows on Second Life forum listing has a link to a closed forum on it, demonstrating that the algorithm that selects sites to get pulled doesn't have the ability to make good judgements about what to list and what not to list.
If you put "second life" and "forums" into the Google search engine, a far more popular search mechanism than del.icio.us, the first site listed that is not in the secondlife.com domain is SLUniverse.com, not at all surprising for the longest established and most succesful site of it's type.
