To promote the "Dune Apocalypse" roleplaying sim, the owners are offering a L$10,000 prize for a videocast that best presents the experience of playing there http://slurl.com/secondlife/dune/128/128/128/?title=Dune. The ideal running time would last no longer than 4 minutes and show the main features of the sim design and offerings in terms of factions, costumes, and other features that make "Dune Apocalypse" a great place to spend one's precious Second Life time. We ask that the video be presentable in a PG-rated environment even though it is considered a Mature site. Be as artistic as you want but remember we will be judging the video on the basis of how well it "sells" the sim. A candidate must host the video and make it publically accessable without cost or downloading special applications for the viewer (i.e. youtube, etc.). The video will be portable, so we can host it after the contest. Participants who are not a part of the sim must obtain a copy of our "FREEBIE" box which includes an OOC observer tag, suitable clothing, useful information, etc. We also ask that you do your best to not interfere in the roleplay of others. Please also read and abide by the sim rules enclosed. The prize will constitute a flat fee for creating the video and therefore, Alidar Moxie, the sim owner, will retain all rights to the video. Submit URL entries to http://dunerp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1110#1110. Post questions and comments to: http://dunerp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1134#1134Contest ends Friday, October 12, 2007. Top five video entries will be posted on Tuesday, October 16, 2007. Winner will be announced Friday, October 19, 2007 during a sim-wide event party at the main plaza on the Dune island (time TBA). The L$10,000 Grand Prize will be given at the announcement. All members and nonmembers are encouraged to participate. Admins and judges may submit videos but are ineligible for the grand prize Razz. Good luck and have fun! Pay

Any video makers out there interested yet? I'm sure great things can be done with the sights over there.

I can give you a price for your sim promo, which will include hosting/streaming, ingame hardware, but 10k won't buy you a 4 minute product. You can checkout our work for a wide range of machinima, including sim promos at http://www.wba-advertising.com Look us up if you get no takers and GL with the project.

The 4-minute clause is not a request, it is a limit. If we released the contest without a time limit, it would take us longer than a few days to watch the videos yet alone decide on a winner.
Good luck with your project though.

Good luck with your project though. Eh?... If that comment was pointed at my post, then I have created ambiguity.. my statement 'but 10k won't buy you a 4 minute product.' meant that 10k would be insufficient value for us to produce a sim promo, which is what is implied with the 'contest'. "Be as artistic as you want but remember we will be judging the video on the basis of how well it "sells" the sim." I doubt (although I could be wrong) that it would attract any serious/professional machinima creators, more a prolifercation of 'hobbist's', which is fine. GL with the project anyway.

I apologize if you thought I was inviting you to *personally* participate. Your submission is not required, and your disinterest is inconsequential. If you'd like to continue this conversation further, please start another thread or come to our forums http://dunerp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1134#1134. You've already made it clear that you want more lindens and I have (hopefully) made it clear that it's not going to happen. Thank you for those who messaged me privately. I understand that you don't want to publically share your ideas. I'm sure your videos will come out great despite AMW's insinutions about your level of professionalism.

I dont know what your issue is.. but be cool okay? We do not submit to contests, but offered to carryout a sim promo for you. Its no big issue that you are not interested, that's fine, but lets keep this type of crap down, no need for it.

Ghanie,
What AWM is telling you is that 10,000L is roughly what entry-level machinimators earn per hour. So, it's unlikely that you're going to attract those of us that do this professionally. I hope you do, but if you don't there are enough talented amateurs out there to give you good value for your money.
Cheers,
skribe

Thank you, skribe Forti, that's something I'll be sure to keep in mind if I ever want to hire someone for this sort of thing.
The contest, however, does not require nor request professional "companies" to play. It's a game, not a job offer.
Those who are participating aren't doing it for the prize money. Dune fans do it for love of the culture and non-dune mech's see the potential of using the brilliant architecture and unique ambiance to diversify their portfolio and/or for the love of making movies.
The entire build was made by Dune fans, completely free of charge. And considering it is something in the realm that other professionals still aspire to create, I am confident that we wont be disappointed with any of the movie submissions.

Well, I can only say, judging by your attitude, client/contractor relations wouldn't perhaps be a joyous experience in any event.
Oh BTW, PMing me with rude comments, then blocking any responces isn't neighbourly, if you must do so, at least give the recipient the ability to respond.
Have a great one.

If you don't play, you can't win.
Rude as that may be, it is a fact that I'm not going to change no matter how much you pm me or spam this thread.
By the way, I'm not a contractor and you are not my client. PMing me doesn't magically give me the ability to hire you for an island I don't own. I told you how to get in touch with the person in charge and it's not through me or this thread.
