Hey guys, does anyone know if good Talking animations? I've seen some where the mouth moves but kind of unrealisticly, and some where the hands move like their are talking but the mouth doesnt. Is there a quality talking animation people use for Machinima out there? I've been searching all over and can't seem to find what I'm looking for, if anyone knows where I can obtain this, it'd be GREATLY appreciated.

This is an inherent problem.
There is no way to directly control the avatar mouth in a timely fashion to fully lip-sync. I have developed a prototype system that probably is the best available, but I have not made it publicly available beyond a limited beta because I'm not sure about the best way to handle the default typing motion. I override the animation with some gestures, but the effect isn't very good and just looks cheap. The best a system like this can do is make it look like avatars in a crowd or background are generally talking. It is not usable for doing closeups with specific dialog. If you want to do face-shots of avatars talking, you need a 3rd party program called Crazytalk. Basically that will modify the image of an avatar you have recorded, making it seem like they talk. Check out The Grid Review of an example of this, http://gridreview.com |

Agreed Geuis, CrazyTalk has some real potential. I've been messing with that and iClone. You can 'apply' any head and shoulders shot of either a RL pic, or SL based pic onto a animate controlled mesh, then one aligned the facial points, feed in sound and it will an almost life like resemblance of a talking avatar. It doesn't interact with avatars directly ingame, but very useful for cut scenes in machinima. iClone works differently, in that, you create an avatar and you can animate it in 3D scenes which you can create and import, adding special effects.
From my 'playing' with it, you can gain some very cool looking movies. The only real drawback, you cant import anything except 2D pics from SL, nor can you export back into sl except by a movie. On the plus side, it does come with a built in animator, which will produce bvh files for importing into sl. Although as a stand alone product purely for the animator, its expensive. I've used iClone to create 3D backdrops/scenes which I then overlay SL produced movies using 'blue screen, chroma keying' to gain the effects, not otherwise possible. I havent released any of my work, as I'm still learning the many processes and fucntions. But both are great tools. _____________________

Thanks for the responses. I always wondered how people made the Avatars talk, it looks like Crazytalk is the program.

I've got Crazy Talk and works great on still shots. Haven't figured out how to use it with machinima yet. Supposedly you can. Any pointers from you pros?
