Hi,
I *may* have a small project coming up in about a month or so. It would involve filming approximately 1- 1.5 hours in-world, then making an edit. This needs to be done professionally and produced professionally enough to stick up as a downloadable video on the web, but with sufficient output quailty on the original to be played over a TV or laptop plus LCD projector at a conference or similar. It's for a UK publisher, but I am as yet unsure if they will finally go for it - all depends on budget.
If you're interested, please leave a message on this forum with URLs of past work and rough estimates of costing for what I have described above and I will get back to you.

Gavin I know 2 professionals who have done work in SL. They probably don't follow this BB and will miss your post. I will call their attention to the post f you pass this flinch test: My rough estimate is that what you want will cost at least $100K (USD). If that does not look reasonable to you, I don't want to bother them. TM

If that's the case then I'll do it myself, I think. I only want an hour's worth of video which I can re-purpose for various media, not a full budget feature film.... I've already made video from SL which looks fine on a data projector, just wasn't sure about a TV monitor, but I guess I can play around. Thanks for your answer, anyway.

Dudeney,
Thinkerer is speaking out of his ****. Contact me via IM (here or in world). I'll need some further info before I can give you a quote. For instance: how long the finished piece is expected to be.
Cheers,

You can probably do it youself

You asked for professional work with professional experience. I assumed a full budget documentary of about 45 min. in my estimate. If you need less, it will cost less.
If you already have made videos in SL, you probably can do it yourself. If what you made looks good on a projector, it will probably look good on a TV screen. How does it look on your computer monitor? How diffrerent is your computer monitor from a TV screen? You can connect your computer to a TV to try it out. You probably have S-video on both.
If it does not look good enough, you may need a new computer or new software. So a $2000 computer might do the capture job as well as a professional. And when you finish, you get to keep the computer.
The other issues that would affect cost are script (shooting and dialogue), set, performers, audio mixing, and editing. You can probably do some or all of these. If you supply all of these and the video capture, the costs drop to nothing in dollars. (This is just changing money costs to your time costs. And these jobs are not as easy as you might think.)
You might try doing some of these things. You may find that you can do it all yourself. Or you might find that you would rather pay some of the people who are on this thread offering services. But either way, you would have a better idea of what you want. TM

I know someone who will do it for $100 million dollars, and a pony.
(me)
But it has to be a real pony or they (I) won't even consider it.

Folks,
Thanks for the info. Basically I'm looking at an audience of 50 or so on a private island, listening to a three-person interview done using a Ventrilo server and then asking questions. So the vid needs a bit of preamble of the island, the actual interview, probably half an hour, , an audience Q&A (some audio and some text) and the post-interview party - in the open-air disco on the island, again, just a taster. I can, of course, do this myself - but I will be a tad busy ensuring the Ventrilo server is working fine, being one of the interviewees and ensuring everyone gets there and can hear the audio, etc.
To the two people who contacted me in SL last night - and who I asked to email me - please do so again as I think my over-zealous spam filter got both of you. Tnanks in advance,
DG
