Does the built-in recorder work in Linux?

I'd like to record some things, but the CTRL-SHIFT-A method only acts like it's working.

It actually asks me about the path, but nothing records there.

Note: this is LINUX, so please do not reccomment FRAPS or MAC things or talk about the root directory.

Does making machinima with the Linux client work? Nope, sadly. I've used a few external desktop recording tools such as Istanbul and gtk-recordMyDesktop, but it makes the viewer run sluggish while recording, which in turn makes the movie look really bad. However i did try a program called xvidcap which did a fairly decent job. You may have to Google it if it's not in your package manager.
