If I were to create a SL set replicating an area in my real world business and shoot a commercial using friends and possibly paid SL actors would I own that content?
Just curious how far reaching the IP rights policy is in SL. This would be used on local television as a animated version of our real commercials since the demographics of SL and our business must have a subtantial overlap. LL would benefit since we would ask viewers to join us in world at the set location.

Hey this is a crucial question for pushing machinima forward. It has been discussed before in these threads: /278/8d/136802/1.html/278/74/121882/1.html/278/66/110371/1.htmlAnd the(mine) conclussion is that the only way to do what you are asking safely is to strike a deal with Linden Labs and, possibly, creators of skins, clothes, furniture etc. If you dont, and use material for commercial purposes, you are running a risk.. Quote from tos: "During any period in which your Account is active and in good standing, Linden Lab gives you permission to create still and/or moving media, for use only within the virtual world environment of the Service ("in-world" , which use or include the "textures" and/or "environmental content" that are both (a) created or owned by Linden Lab and (b) displayed by Linden Lab in-world." Good luck! It would be great to see some cases of successfull RL use of machinima.

This is a huge concern for filmmakers and content creators in general.
