Not sure where to post my question but I hope this is right/ok. If not, I apologize. I only ever come to these forums when I am in dire need of help so I am a relative noob.
I have been renting DvDs in game from Shaft for a long time. They used to always work just fine for me till I took a break from the game. When I came back recently I started having trouble getting movies to play.
I have asked for help in group and they all said the same thing which is something I already did.....update quicktime.
I have the most up to date version of SL (1.20.15 or whatever), Quicktime (7.5.5 or whatever with itunes), and even mediaplayer (11) since I wasnt sure what the problem was or what all I needed to fix it hehe.
Here is the deal:
I rent land and am in a 'public' group. By that I mean the landowner runs the group, it is not mine. I DID keep my group tag on the whole time I was trying to play the movie since I wasnt sure if it was a requirement or not.
I rented the movie and went thru the steps to set it out, deed it to the proper group, load, sync, and play it.
Everything was done properly as far as I know since I have done all this before in the past and got movies to work fine. And the movie started playing for my partner who was there with me. However, it would not play for me. For me, the TV screen went completely white with a small black box in the center.
I have done everything I can think of and everyone I know and in my group can think of. All my options are set properly as far as we can see (I CAN see the TV fine. It works great, so I know it isnt that and we know it isnt the movie I guess since it works for my partner).
Is there something we all are missing or not thinking of? Has anyone else ever had this problem? If so, how do you fix it?? After paying $600L for this movie, I would really like the chance to watch it lol.
Thanks and I appreciate any help!

SL has been messing with media since 6 months ago, basically the 'media type' selector box in Abount Land, Media Tab, doesn't always remain sticky as the sim/parcel tries to determine whether you are trying to show a move, its type, render a webpage (useless as it bascially resembles a texture), show a picture (wow new feature? lol).
In addition, LL phishes the urls causing delays in the url being delivered, sometimes not at all. They do this to test you are not watching porn etc.
Overall, standard media systems are still stuck with the one movie per parcel limitation. Maybe someone else on the parcel has deeded a receiver, or freeview set somewhere and left it.
To make things worse, I've noticed that on some sims (including some that weren't an issue before), you have to use Autoscale, which adds 50% overhead to the client, as the texture cannot align itself and becomes scewed on all prim faces, also reverting to black and white scan lines. This suggests how the sim server is 'speaking' to the client, corrupt information about the texture, being fed to the client, preventing correct orientation. Scew is something you have to add, it is not default on any prim.
The only system that I know of that can overcome your problems is the Silver Stream Network media systems, however they are not compatible with standard media systems in repects to playing ingame (dvd's), which only work with their own systems. To clarify, so called dvd's work exactly the same as any other media systems, in that they require a url linking to player to the media, the 'dvd' contails a script that delivers that url to its own player. It will not work with other systems, standard or otherwise.
Silver Stream systems use open playlists, you store your urls in a playlist NC which the player reads. Thats the simple explaination, it does this in a secure method preventing others from stealing your urls.
