I want to stream a netcam onto my movie screen in world. I think I know how to do that, but I am concerned about bandwidth as the netcam and my PC will be on the same cable modem. Has anyone done this before? Are the results acceptable, IE framerate, video quality.
Will this drag down the sim performance and annoy my neighbors?
Thanks VHF

Hi VHF - I was at an Electric Sheep Company event (machinima festival in NYC) where the stream was a live stream from a webcam, so certainly doable. Also, the media stream is only passed through SL, it will not effect sim performance on the Linden servers.

From: Satchmo Prototype Check out our project DTV which does what your asking. Here is the tutorial. Hahah, that's not what your asking at all! I think you can get acceptable results from streaming a webcam into your movie screen in-world. It won't effect your neighbors performance, or even anyone on your land who did not press play on the movie controls. You may take some hit on performance but in my experience SL performance issues are usually client-side issues (i.e. your video card) than bandwidth. At my home we run 2 SL clients + DTV and it never hiccups.
