My problem is I'm working on a Mac Powerbook and that means F1 to F9 are defaulted to things like screen brightness and volume!
Does anyone know whether there is a workaround for mac laptop users
At the moment it means I can't hide the UI (CTRL/ALT/F1)
or trigger the ALT-CAMERA studio camera, which uses f1 to trigger "action"
Any suggestion of alternate shortcuts... or a way to manually reset f1 to f9 on the Powerbook series much appreciated.

OKay... solved it myself
and here it is:
In System Preferences, go to Keyboard/Mouse... select "Kewyboard" and then check the box "use F1 to F12 to control software"
It does mean you have to use the "fn" key with the F1/F10 keys to later stuff like brightness and volume

Hmmm, on my Macbook pro, there is a 'fn' button in the bottom left of the QWERTY.
So to hide the UI is CTRL+ALT+fn+F1, not sure if powerbook has one of these?

thanks for that... wish I'd known that a week ago "Pro laughs"
The Powerbook has exactly the same keyboard as the Macbook Pro, which makes sense, because it its older, better looking sister.
I'm going to update my machine at some point, but I'm waiting to see how reliable the solid state hard drives are.
