Looking To Learn about Streaming

Been useing a FTP Server to run my streaming videos, was interested in Learning how to stream such as AMV's or music videos, I've converted a amv into a .mov formatt, I can hear the audio but see no picture, also the Response for these to load up are pretty slow and was hoping to learn how to make it faster, or to Stream it from a different section then FTP.
