I used Broadcaster (free from Apple) that basically accepts the webcam input, signed up with a streaming company, which is paid for by:- users X bandwith quality X length of time of the stream. The company provides a url to broadcast to (a port access) and a url to hook up the media link to in SL.

If you have your own Darwin Server, you can do all this yourself. I would not suggest you try streaming directly from your PC. Your system would be vulnerable to attack as you are openning ports through your firewall. You will need a lot of Upstream bandwidth.

A rough calculation of how much upstream (not download) bandwidth you will need:-
A low quality stream at 300kbps, fed to say 10 viewers will need a minimum of 3mbps, plus around a 20% overhead for packet checking, plus bandwidth to run SL on the machine.

However, most packages are on a first come first served basis. There are no assurances that you will get the port connections you require, let alone the bandwidth, you get what you pay for.
